I suggest staggard stacking ( 1 lawyer stacked 1 way with the next lawyer layed across the stack below)... do not stack too as this will make the load unstable and then use your tarps with straps over tarps to secure load. The more straps the better. Hope this helps
NavigatorWife and NWMAXI Thank this. -
I've hauled small squares from MN to TX and haven't had any issues. I use v boards and tarp it.
NWMAXI, MNdriver and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
It's been a long time, but I've stacked a lot of trailers with small squares. If you do a nice straight and square job it will be okay (with lots of straps). If a moron stacked it, or worse yet, a group of morons, you won't want to get near it. Also, hay "settles" or "shrinks" when it gets comfortable on the trailer and you have to get those straps tight again. A bad load will kind of bend and lean, sort of collapsing on itself. You can't do anything then except wish you never started out.
QuietStorm, bullhaulerswife, osokusmc and 2 others Thank this. -
I took several loads from Az to Tx one I'll remember 448 loose bails (one of the wish I never started out) the guy loading with a squeezer wasn't familiar with the loading of it nor myself, nine straps on the sides and 2 across the top. I thought it might be my last, it made it home all the one's I see look like their going to fall off. Its your load so you just have to make the people loading to do a lot of pushing with the loader to try to square it up and slow down on rough roads.
aiwiron Thanks this. -
Had three loads back a few years ago, the guys loading it knew how to stagger the load and then put on the tarps. Everything rode pretty well, and I did a load check pretty often. Just don't get in a hurry in traffic. The stuff I had paid so well I just had to take 'em.
NWMAXI Thanks this. -
I hate hauling hay,,I haul the 4x4 bales, but still hate it..
NWMAXI Thanks this. -
And check that load, cause like I said, if it ever gets loose.... its going to move & the more it moves the more & more it will move & eventually will topple over & spill. Just keep a check on it.
Oh, just don't pull your straps so much that it cuts into the bale a lot. If it does & you keep tightening it, you will eventually tighten it down to the strings that hold the bales together (to create the bale) & it will cut or break those hay strings. Then the bale will come apart & it will spill.
Hope this helpsNavigatorWife and NWMAXI Thank this. -

I hate hauling hay and will let it at that.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I haul it every week, but then again we are in the hay business here.To me it is just another load of freight, same as a coil is to some others. We haul the big square's & rd. bales though.
