    Hello drivers...

I've got over 2 million miles under my belt, but I've been out of the truck since 2007. I recently went back and got my CDL and am about to head out next week with my new company (Owner opwerator with 5 trucks). The larger, well known company that my boss is contracting to has done their checks and screens on me. MVR's good, background screen's good, etc. I've been cleared for take off.

Now the company we're going to be hauling for is requiring me to get the Haz-Mat endorsement. I let my hazmat lapse because I'd never planned on hauling the stuff anymore, don't want to. We won't be hauling any hazmat, but the company still wants me to get it.

My problem is that when I reapplied and got my CDL again, a few of my past "misdeeds" (DWI in personal vehicle) did not show up on my MVR and I'm worried that they will pop up again with a full hazmat background check. Don't ask me how it got lost in the shuffle, but it did. I've even paid for a copy of my MVR from the state website and it's not on there. I'm wondering if the full hazmat check will find it and alert the BMV. Do they just do the background check for felonies, guns, theft, etc.?

I appreciate all input and comments, but please just answer the hazmat question if you KNOW FOR SURE. I'm really debating weather to go get it done or just pass on this job and go find another outfit that does not need the HM endorsement.

    Thanks!!

Well I don't know how long ago your misdeeds were, and that is the question... Is that even a reason to deny a haz-mat endorsement?

Got it in '05, convicted misdemeanor in '07. I fought it in court is why it took so long for the conviction date. I'm not sure if they check for those on the Hazmat bacground check either. Thanks for the reply though.

Ok well I just rechecked my TWIC app. and no uestions about that so I think you will be OK. I was and still thinking that the back ground checks are the same for both. If you get one you should be able to get the other. I could be misinformed.

I can attest to mvr not showing everything they should (check my previous posts). I just wonder (theorize) that when if and when someone pays for a copy of theor OWN mvr, the clownd down there never really run your name, and just give you an "all clear". But when an "Employer requests one, they do a proper search and list everything, as they should. As I said, just wondering.

I've been poking around on-line and can't find any specific info on it for Indiana, as far as what they actually do check for. Maybe I need to get my mits on a new DOT book. The DWI actually has made me hesitant to apply for the TWIC too. Thanks for the info and comment!

i believe you loose your hazmat for 5 years after a DWI.

I know I got one in 2007(in a personal vehicle), I lost my CDL for a year, and cannot get my hazmat back until 2012.

i have also had misdeeds 7 or 8yrs ago and it was a felony, they let me get my twic and as far as i can see the hazmat uses the same co. for back ground checks.i think it's based on how old the charge is and what it's for.it's mainly homeland security's reasoning for all the checks.they didn't want excons or misfits being able to handle hazmat material.this is just my opinion, but it's not people that have been in trouble that always do bad deeds, sometimes it's the straight guy that's under alot of pressure from responsibilities in his life that's trying to make a quick buck.i spent 1 night in jail and i know it's not the place for me,so u don't have to worry about me getting into trouble ever again.my co-worker has his hazmat and he's a convicted child offender and did time in prison 10+ years ago,but they wouldn't let him get his twic.

You're o.k. on the background check but does your employer know about the DWI ? It'll probably show up on the yearly review .

The DWI isn't on my Indiana MVR so I didn't volunteer the info. The background check (criminal history) and MVR check was done by the company that my owner op. boss is contracted to. It's a VERY big, nationwide/worldwide company(not gonna mention the name here) and I figure that they would have some of the best sites to go to to screen their drivers and contract drivers. Maybe it's because it was in a personal vehicle(my Corvette on my icon), I'm not sure. I blew an .09, barely over, and I weigh 270, 6' 1".

Maybe I have an angel up there looking out for me because I learned a very hard lesson well and gave up the drinking because of it.

Maybe I should go ahead and get fingerprinted and "take the chance".

    Thanks for the responses!
