I think you can see where i'm going with this.

Wanting to start the process of getting hazmat, but i remembered it required a background check. Also remembered that the government isnt going to be giving out new visas or small business loans and such during the shutdown.

Was wondering if the BG✔ is completely state or federal based? Is it going to be possible to GET hazmat while the government is on strike?

Hazprints is Federal, part of TSA and Homeland Security. Not sure if they are effected by shutdown, call them 1 (877) 429-7746

Being under TSA and Homeland Security there will probably be full staff to expedite your approval.... until it gets to the mailing room where they made drastic cuts in personnel and it sits there for the next 8 months.:biggrin_25523: (sorry, couldn't resist)

Isn't all of that handled by a contractor? Lockheed Martin? If so, they shouldn't be shut down.

Yeah Lockheed Martin contracted from the gov't but I'm not sure if they have the whole country. It might be a southern thing because I remember reading something that they left control of the fingerprinting/background checks to some states and some to contractors. I was one of the first ones in Chattanooga and they just rented an office. They didn't even have chairs and brought in some cheap folding chairs, lol. But I remember their Lockheed Martin ID tags.

Even contractors are getting furloughed. Both my brother and nephew got it. Half the gov't websites I've been to are shut down. One will just have to call Monday.

Homeland Security is still operating. I am a contractor for ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement) and we are still funded.

Yes, it used to be handled by Lockheed Martin... However, I had mine done just a few months ago and it was the TSA doing it. They are not farming it out any more apparently.

The original question is a good one, I would suspect that the offices are closed for background checks from the TSA... Let us know what you find out.

Just got off phone with em. They ARE independently contracted and are not being affected by the shutdown.

Time to start the process then.
