What is most thourough, a hazmat background check or an employment background check? My husband passed the hazmat check and is waiting for the employment background check to come back.

Is your husband trying to hide something? The haz-met check just verifies that he doesn't have any of the particular crimes in his past. The pre-employment check could be checking and disqualifying him for anything, depending on the company's criteria.

.
Hazmat.... But the employer will not be looking for the same things.
If you can buy a gun, you can pass a Hazmat pretty much.
TWIC is even more in depth. -
I'd say the employer background check would be more thorough . They can check MVR , credit rating and medical history among other things .

Thanks everyone, no Leannamarie he isn't trying to hide anything I am just curious as my husband had been out of trucking for a year and a half because he had to go on insulin. He finally gave up on trying to get the waiver, no Dr.'s in central IL. want to deal with it. He is off insulin now and his numbers are good. A1C a 7.1. (Diet and pills). One trucking company wouldn't even consider him because he hasn't driven for the last 90 days. He has a perfect MVR and our credit is good. He has gotten his Hazmat again and is in the process of being hired by a very good company to work for, If he passes the background check and company physical. The Dr. that gives the company physical is the one that gave him his medical card so that should be good. I was just wondering what they check and if there would be anything to worry about. He passed his interview and driving test so the background check and physical is all that is left. Thanks for the info.

I'm having a hard time with that "no experience in the past 90 days" statement. Not that I don't believe you, because I do. I just find it disturbing that some companies are turning the screws down that tight.
But, I don't know your husbands actual experience before his extended break either. -
The 90 day thing is just another way to cut down the hiring pool. There are so many drivers trying to get jobs right now that the companies are being really picky. The longer a driver is out of work the harder it will be to get one again.

The 90 day thing also gives some carriers the opportunity to charge over $1,000 for a refresher course .
