I have/had a TN CDL with HazMat. YOU CANNOT JUST LET YOUR HAZMAT EXPIRE OR YOU WILL HAVE YOUR CDL CANCELLED, maybe even your car driver's license. You have to show up in-person with your CDL, turn it in and be issued a new CDL without the HazMat. There is no alternative. It doesn't have to make sense to be true, it's trucking.
Apparently some states do something different than TN on this matter. Whatever your state procedure is, follow it. The regulations ARE NOT JUST COMMON SENSE. If you expect to just use common sense to stay out of trouble you will wind up in trouble. It doesn't have to make sense to be true.
Hazmat Endorsement cancelled my CDL?
