I was told hazmat does not transfer when you get a new license? (moving from state A to state B).

I have my NY state CDL...but I will be moving before seeking employment. I plan on getting my other endorsements. But I was told to not get hazmat since I would have to do it over when I move.

So keep on studying and then get it once you're settled in.Hazmat is the hardest test and the most studying.

Hazmat is the hardest. Take the practice tests on here. Took me about 3/4 days of doing them I got a 25 right and 2 wrong before it shut down and told me I passed but I won't fib. I did over pass like 6 questions and come back to them. Some aren't on there that are here for practice if say about 85% are.

Correct, you have to retake the haz-mat knowledge test every time you transfer from state to state or renew your CDL. Also, your background check has to be redone every renewal and if you transfer to another state you may have to redo the background check if too much time has passed, usually more than one year from last time it was taken. This was a pain for me, I moved from PA to NM, was there 18 months, transferred to VA for 35 days (just long enough to get my cdl transferred) then back to NM for another 14 months and back to PA again, total of 4 cdl transfers in 3 years!

Just tell the DOT cop that it didn't transfer, and give him your cdl license number.

Do that and you're in for a very expensive conversation. Unless the state you move to gives you a temporary endorsement (New York gives you a few months to get the background check done, but you have to do the written test when you transfer your license there), you no longer have a hazmat endorsement and will be ticketed accordingly. Until you get fingerprinted, take the test, and get your new license in hand, you can't haul hazmat.

Oh wow... Glad I read this thread... I was planning on getting the HazMat with the other endorsements but I think we might be moving in a few months so I guess I will now put that one on the back burner until we make the change to the new state... Thanks.
