It's a pain but if you don't you risk getting an expensive ticket. I personally know someone who got cited for it and he said it was a steep ticket.
Ya gotta watch for route restrictions such as tunnels and around major cities too.

Well, you guys were right. My background check was on file so I didn't need the letter and the test result paper is good for a year. However, the kid at the DMV was a moron. First he left off my motorcycle endorsement. No big deal, redo the paperwork and that was fixed. Then I get my license and head on out cause I was tired of being in the crowded place.

I just looked at it cause I felt like it and there's a restriction on it. WTF, I've never had a restriction on my license before. So I look it up. That re-tard put a restriction on it that made my license a non airbrake CDL. I am not amused by this bull ####.

I have Hazmat along with all the other endorsements. I like having everything I can as far as qualifications. Strangely enough I welcome the challenge of testing for anything. I like having all avenues open.

That being said, I think it's a waste of time and money and would give it up if I could make myself let go.

Only a month into driving and 80% of the loads I have hauled have been HAZMAT loads. Sure glad I have it.

I have it, my company never hauls it. I'll still always keep it though as you never know in the future when it might come in handy.

My passport expired, and my new company wants me to do Canada. So, I went down to get the enhanced license, since I don't plan on going anywhere but Canada anymore.
Well, in order to get the enhanced license, I had to take the HazMat exam again if I wanted to keep it. So, I did. Geezzz, off the street cold, the first exam I missed 7, 2nd exam 10, 3rd 7, finally on my 4th try I only missed 2. I don't even need it right now with this company, but I just couldn't give it up either.:biggrin_2559:

Just last wednesday a guy in our company lounge was complaining about taking a Fresh Express load to PA for a monday delivery. He said, "there is never anything coming back on mondays"

Well wouldn't ya know, I got that load. But before I even picked it up I was preplanned with a load back the day after delivery. It is a hazmat, and more miles then the one going there.

I wonder if he has a hazmat license?

I think its good to have but such a scam. Everyone with a CDL is in CDLIS and I'm pretty sure everyone runs the standard TSA background check. Then if I want to get a TWIC card I have to pay for another background check and fingerprint..Lmao they can go to hell.

Had a current hazmat cert from FL, but I transferred my license to NY, but I guess it doesnt mean ####. So $151.50 later for the background check, $5 bucks for the test and $120 to transfer my license.

Fast/Expres, HazMat, TWIC, enhanced license, passport, they're all money makers in that how many times does the same background check have to be done? Why can't one background check be used for all? The Fast/Expres background is for 2 different countries, so maybe that would require a separate check.:biggrin_25525:
