I had to get my HAZMAT for my first OTR job but that was back when it was easy to get. That outfit did about 15% HAZMAT loads.
My second OTR company HAZMAT was not required but I got an extra .01 or .02 per mile (all miles) for having it and only hauled about 2 HAZMAT loads over the year I was their.
I will keep it no matter the company I work for as it will only become harder and harder to get. One day it will pay for its self I hope.
I never understood why I need to keep refiling my fingerprints except to give the government more money. My prints are on file all over the place and they have never changed. I can think of at least 6 different things in my life I have had to submit my prints for, you would think these places would just talk to each other. -
I already re-qualified for the HME this year, so I can get it when I renew my CDL, which expires in November. As soon as I can get to the DMV to get that don I'll go. It costs $79.50 In PA, and the fingerprint/background chck was $60.00. Expensive I know, but I really thinkI should have it, because I can!

If you can get it, (like no criminal history, no country of origin problems, etc., finances to pay for the additional cost, etc), then go ahead and get it. I think you will not regret the decision.Last edited: Jun 20, 2011

It's only certain crimes. Treason, sedition, armed robbery, big stuff.
Yodler Thanks this. -
I have my HAZ endorsement as it was required for my job, and I will keep it up to date should I change jobs. My company reimbursed me for the TSA background check.
