always, always get at least one extra from the shipper. If they are the stick on kind, and you put it in a holder, use some tape. Wind at highway speeds can and does remove placards. Get to the nearest truck stop, and buy another placard that is of the correct type.

When I pulled reefers, the assistant terminal manager told us to never stick the placards on too good because they are too hard to remove. Problem is, he isn't driving the truck. I always cleaned the paint with window cleaner, the stick the adhesive placard on and in inclement weather added 2" clear tape around the edge to that.
You know how that works, lose a placard and get a ticket, the pencil pusher will deny everything. Protect yourself.hal380, double yellow, bubbagumpshrimp and 1 other person Thank this. -

in cold weather those thin ones like to tear and break when removal is attempted.
just tear off about 2"-3" around the edges when you apply.
removal is easy and they will stay on.
it's a pain, but you won't be freezing your fingers trying to get all the little pieces off.
for holders; a little duct tape on the edges keeps them in.
unused extras are kept in the side box.Chinatown Thanks this. -
I always clear tape them in the placard holders for extra security. I also get at least one extra, two if they have numbers on them (they're more difficult to replace, and I have made them before, but it's a PITA).

Here's what you do next time you haul a placarded trailer, get a couple extra placards from the shipper. If you forget and it falls off while enroute, stop at the next truck stop and pick up one. Also make sure the trailer is free of dirt so the placard sticks and from now on use duct tape for all 4 sides on the placard I would not remove the back peeling because the placard can be hard to remove once you're empty. Its best to stop every so often to make sure the placards haven't come off.Always have a couple extra placards.

Do not ask for one but four or five at the shipper. Tell them you need to ensure that they stay on and this would be just in case they come off.
baha Thanks this.
