The last bolded phrase leads me to believe that it is illegal to stop on the tracks, or highly frowned upon.
So what do you do leaving this hazmat plant? Crossings are noted as 1, 2 and 3...

The first two are no problem, but stopping for the third will definitely leave the trailer blocking one, maybe two of the angled tracks.
The direction of travel is the only "legal" exit route. Turning left at stop #2 was not legal for trucks. I was pretty sure.
Welcome to Chicago (this is actually West Chicago) the region with the most rail miles in the nation and consequently the most rail road crossings!
Oh, and the Hazardous Material?
Chewing gum flavoring!

wow, that IS a tough one..!!
looking at that one set of tracks at the 3rd stop, i gotta ask, are those tracks "exempt"..??? did you see any signage saying that.>???
if so, stopping would not be needed.
that set looks like a "delivery set" for the business in that area, and may not get much train traffic on there then the others..?? -
Maybe drive down the oncoming lanes! That would give a bit more room for the back end of the trailer.... Hehehehee
Mikeeee -
you don't want to cross any lanes, in an accident, you would be 1000% at fault. hell a cop can ticket you too if he see's you, maybe even make you walk the white line, recite the ABC's backwards..???

First of all, how exactly is "chewing gum flavoring" classified? Just because you are required to have placards on your trailer does not mean you have to stop at all rail crossings.
There are also exceptions, which allow even those vehicles required to stop at all rail crossings to cross certain crossings without stopping.
Do any of the crossings in question meet those specifications?
If stops are required, I'd stop at #1 & #2. If I could stop at #3 without remaining on the #2 tracks, I would...otherwise, the stop I made for #2 would be to clear both #2 and #3 (since stopping on the tracks is a BIG no-no). Besides, you already checked the #3 tracks once (same tracks as #1), so the #2 stop would check the #2 tracks and to make sure #3's situation hadn't changed before rolling across both #2 & #3.davenjeip Thanks this. -
I would roll through the third one. That's how I handle tracks like that, and I haul haz waste everyday. Never been stopped for it.

It was class 3 flammable in large totes in 53' van.

I imagine that is a Class 3. I would do what Pedigreed said. Stop at 1 and 2. Use the 2nd stop to recheck 3, which I am assuming is a spur. Even if it isn't I wouldn't stop on those tracks after 2.

guess smoking while chewing is out then, huh..???? lol..
considering the gum we chew nowadays is made of polymers/synthetics, doesn't surprise me, that we can have our heads explode while we chew..
