So, a funny thing happened to me. I decided to switch to a job that requires me to have a Haz endorsement. So I put in for my security assessment, quit my old job, and went off to orientation after being told that I will have 3-4 weeks of training before I'm out on my own (making the week or so wait for my assessment to come back a non-issue).
Well, I get to orientation, and on the last day I get told that the HR people threw a fit after a few trainees completed training without even starting the process to get their hazmat, and now nobody can start until it's actually on their license.
So here I sit - unemployed and unable to collect unemployment since I am technically "employed".
So for you HAZMAT guys, how long does the TSA usually take to complete their assessment? I've heard figures ranging from a few days, to 2 months. At lot of guys at the office had to get re-certified recently and are saying 1.5 to 2 weeks. I'm all for a 2 week vacation, but a month is going to really start to chafe my savings account....
EDIT - typo

they should have given you a 5 digit pin. -
Yeah, they have 6 to eight weeks, I got mine in 6 days but a friend applied about 3 months after me and it took about 6 weeks for him to get his. I dunno what the difference is but I have heard of 2 people going in together and one getting the letter the next week and the other getting hers the next month. No news isn't bad news with them either because I had a coworker that got a denial letter 5 days after he went in, LOL.

Does your state expedite?
My HazMat took five days. I went to the TSA office and they took my fingerprints. That was a Thursday AM. Monday AM, I called to see if I was okay and I wasn't cleared for the DMV yet. Tuesday, I called and I was cleared. I took the HazMat exam and got my temp license upon completion. The permanent version came in the mail 12 days later, but the temp is good to get started. The HazMat will show on your MVR within 24 hours of passing the exam.
This is in Colorado, by the way. The DMV doesn't wait for the hard copy TSA letter. They get an email from TSA as soon as you're good to test. If you've already done your fingerprinting before orientation, you should already be good to go.
I actually found out about this through TTR. If I hadn't asked, I'd still be waiting for the TSA letter. -
Go apply for unemployment. You are not technically employed until you draw a paycheck and have been actually working.

The letter is only a formality. DMV will have you updated long before you see the letter. Call them. -
sorry to hijack post but i want to do my endorsement tests (double, tank, hazmat) say i go in do all 3 of them and pass them then do the paperwork for the assessment, when the hazmat cdl comes in the mail, will have all 3 of the endorsements the "X"

KLLM may be a good OTR choice. Solo starts at .32cpm and extra pay for Hazmat loads.
