I am aware there is fingerprinting involved and I must have hazmat and tankers but are there any companies especially around the Chicago land area willing to hire a driver with just a tankers? Or is there no way around it?

I would get your hazmat endorsement and your twic card at the same time less money.

Cool! I am going to be attending school soon and since I am not allowed to take the hazmat i am allowed to take the D/T endorsement instead. But if I am ok to do the tanker which is more worth my time to get? Tanker or the D/T?

Take both. The more endorsements the better when looking for a job. Just my take. Good luck!

    EZ Money Thanks this.

Passing the endorsement tests for tankers and/or doubles/triples in Illinois doesn't require much more then being vertical and having a pulse. Study the DMV book on them, both are short sections. If I remember correctly tanker was only a page and a half long or something like that. The test of each is easy, mostly just common sense thinking.

Personally I would get both endorsements since the tests aren't hard, at least initially until you figure out what way you are headed in terms of getting a job. If you end up in a place where you don't need them you can always chose not to renew them when they expire.

Not being able to get HazMat will keeps doors closed to you, it's beyond your control, but there is still plenty of work out there to be had without it, but having them will open more doors.

You can also concentrate on getting your CDL without the endorsements then add them at any time after you have it if you want to, whichever is easier.

Why can't you take hazmat? Very few felonies disqualify you from getting hazmat.
