There is no face to face interview with anyone. The person that does your fingerprints and scans your birth certificate and ss card does just that.
Then you wait for a reply in the mail telling you yes or no.
7 to ten days on the reply.

-
Goodluck! Im not going to try to answer any question when I don't know what the offense was. I'm out of it.

I personally don't know you from adam and don't care what you did as long you shared a little bit of that. There are CERTAIN crimes for which you will never touch a big rig again under FMCSA. Im not going to sit here and say did you do this, do that do over there? no no no no no until you say yes. That's silly. Im also not going help much unless we knew what you were convicted of and MAYBE you will get a straight no BS answer about 18 wheelers with that conviction.
There is several things. If you committed a felony with a CMV you are finished with trucking. If you are a high enough sex offender you cannot be within a certain distance of schools etc. IF you are still on probation etc reporting into the PO or peeing into cup etc. You are not yet free to go about your trucking life, if there is one after all this. If you used a big truck or were involved in big enough theft against a company, EMBEZZLEMENT and other issues you will not touch a truck again. It's all there on the FMCSA website.
What we have left is nothing more than a mystery. You wont say what you did specifically and we who know better cannot say you do this or that and so on. It's not going to happen. Anything else is hearsay, specialization or otherwise simple BS.
We can choose to go back and forth about this all week. But I wont. No crime specific? Then we have no specific answer for you. -
I will say this in regard to the OP. I have no idea what they were in prison for. However that list of crimes is rather extensive. Unless the OP was convicted of a misdemeanor and sent to prison (yes it does happen) Not sure what that offense could have been and not be in that list of crimes. The only crime I can think of that is not part of that list is something I would not want to mention either. I don't see pedophilia listed. Even that may be considered rape or aggravated sexual abuse.

That is one of the reasons that this attempt to help the OP is flawed. Without hard information in form of a Fact. There is no way to establish good to go or whoa #### it. I should not brought up that offenders thought, that is one xample why there cannot be any good to come of it. Because again OP wont share the fact. There is nothing to work with.
I use too many words, my apologies. Bottom line, felons get going in life all over again in trucking. Tha's a beautiful thing. I have slowly grown to try to have one good fact in hand. It's worth a crowd of birds making noise in the bush and stirring the cats all up again.REO6205 Thanks this.
