    Bypass Restrictions - Drivewyze

Even though the link above applies to DriveWyze, a competitor to PrePass, I find their list is more complete. I haul HazMat only.

OH, AZ, AR, CT, MA, MD, WV require you to enter the scales (if open) when you have HazMat, even if your Prepass or DriveWyze system says OK to bypass. In these states, you enter the scales if they are open when pulling HazMat.

The one good thing I will say about Ohio, at least they post a road sign saying HazMat must enter the scales. Most other states just wait for you to follow the PrePass and then chase you down and give you a huge fine. One of our drivers got a $600 fine from Arizona for bypassing the scales with HazMat. That's money the driver pays, not the company.

It would be nice if Prepass and Drivewyze could just have a way you could set it to know if you are hauling haz mat or not and then send you in automatically if in a state that requires it.

IMO, it's cheaper and easier to just write the few states on a notecard and post it beside the PrePass.

A year or two ago GA switched from "HazMat enter if open" to "Even HazMat follows road signs at the weigh-in-motion sites."
