so you say he is impulsive? and you have a two yr old at the house? and your at the house, and he hated it 24 hr into it? let me ask the one question i havent seen asked here ,What did he do before he went to school to be a new driver?.....He could be thinking some one else is handleing his home dutys? someone else could be filling in as daddy? and this is where you need to give him reasureance, everything is cool, and he needs to put his big boy pantys on and get his job done so he can support his family.......when he brings his new rig home, give him some quality time up there in his truck like what was sugested earlyer,......he almost 30 yrs old.....time to seperate the man from the boy!!!! then again $6000 of a investment is another reason to tighen those pantys...just my opinon take it for what its worth, to many people are out of work and rideing the welfare system......he needs to be happy he even has a job:biggrin_25525:

Over the years I learned that the easiest way to find a new job is look around while you're already working. This way you can talk to other drivers, see what the job and pay is really like, how the company treats it's drivers.... and without the pressure of having to take the first thing that comes along.

Prospective employers also tend to take you more serious if you're already working in the trade.

I thought we might not overload him but as you brought it up this is for him...don't worry about what goes on when your not home. If you need to know your wife will tell you. You can drive yourself crazy with whatif's. My trainer told me to never go home without calling and I have stuck to that rule for all these years and it has served me well. The prisons are full of drivers that thought it would be good to surprise their better half and it didn't work that well.

I'm kind of tired of hearing that one. Nothing personal but it doesn't really apply here and the employers have started using it to screw people.

Dam if that isnt the biggest truth. Each month I swear employers come up with new and exciting ways to screw over dedicated employees....Once the economy turns (whenever the hell that will be), people will begin to exercise options...

I think "truth about trucking" claimed that 97 out of 100 people that start trucking are no longer in this industry at the 1yr point. That's an incredible number.....Roehl was claiming only a 68% turnover in Oct 2009 as if that was a 'good thing'. Well I guess compared to some other companies, it isn't all that bad but still...68% each year...

No, not always true. I have never run OTR, course my first job was in a concrete truck and then an end dump with the same company. We had 3-4 guys that were never OTR and the company I'm with now had and has guys that were never OTR. Maybe its just the luck of the draw that you find these jobs, but it can be done.

tell him to hang in there. I know that being away from the family can be hard. I have a 2 1/2 and a 3 1/2 year old. I take comfort that i'm giving them a good lifestyle. I tell my wife that I can come home and we can all be together....in a cardboard box. I work for roehl. there are a lot of regional spots here and he can be home every week. thats what i do and i'm making decent money. the first year is the hardest but it gets better.
