Headed to Houston AREA. Info please

    Ok, the wife and I are headed to Houston for vacation in 2 weeks.
    Long story, Short. Would like to set up a couple of interviews in between BBQ stops.

    Seems most trucking companies are to dense to realize, I'M TRYING TO MOVE TO Texas.
    Seems they see my Nevada address and automatically reject me. Have actually been told this by 2 companies.:mad::mad::mad:

    We are FINALLY making the big move. Have house loan secured, but don't want to buy a house in wrong place for work.

    Any recommendations on companies in the Houston AREA that pay well. I DON'T want to job hop. So looking long term. Have worked for my current company for over 2 years.
    I have been in HAZMAT tankers for ALMOST 3 years now and I LIKE IT ALOT. However, looks like it doesn't pay much down there. Looking for medium to small size company. I have been trying to get into car hauling, but no luck yet. Any reviews on Hansen and Adkins??? I'm open to most anything that pays well. Tankers, Auto Hauling, Prevailing wage road work??? Let's see where this goes.

    Hazmat companies located on the South East side like down 225 towards Laporte. Parking lots are North side near the rail head with a honorable mention over by Hobby. OD is over there too. Saia is mid town and Cooper is North.

    Based on my experience you are going to get the same yaya . Not going to want to mess with you without Tx CDL so it depends on your cash needs. You could grab a Schneider deal or Trimac to get your feet wet while you swap the CDL and familiarize yourself with the area and then pull the trigger OR just keep hitting the ball.

    Id stay away from oilfield right now unless it's hourly....JMO

    I was afraid of that. Looks like they leave you no choice. I just hate being "OFF" for extended periods of time. I don't have that kind of money. But I guess it'll be "beans and wienies" for a few weeks while we get thing settled out.
    We will be house hunting and wanted to set up a couple interviews, drive tests, etc while there.
    Any idea what a "reasonable" hourly wage is in the area. I KNOW it varies. Just trying to figure out if they are "low-balling" me for the area. I'm open to anything "reasonable", but if OFFERED hourly, I want to know what would be good for years experience, no tics, no accidents, etc.... I'm there to WORK, not ##### whine and moan over every detail. I just want what's fair!

    Enterprise Baytown WAS paying like 22 for crude drivers. The rest pay mileage with hourly for ground work or standards. 12 to 20 depending on you, the company and the freight. $1000 to $1200 a week company is reasonable for 70 / 8 in the market. Some make more...many make less. What they can't get is a clean driver and when one does come in, they won't pay.

    Here's a thought....look through the unemployment commissions web site. The big privates list there. it gives them some points. It will be a needle in a haystack but I've seen them there. It's where I found Shell. ( no, I didn't get job )

    Build a network too. Go to the local TS and catch the hands...they know.

    If you're looking for hazmat tankers that oays really well,check out jam transport...they dont hire very often due to low turnover but theyre worth the time to,check out....
