Had an interesting week. Yesterday on my way to Sauder woodworking, I was just south of Bowling Green Ohio when traffic came to a stop. There was an accident between a semi and a car. I was at the exit for SR 18. I was going to be close for my 10 am delivery time, so I did not want to wait. I took 18 and in a very short while the roads turned to solid Ice....totally covered and you could not see the asphalt.
I dropped down to about 30 mph and put my flashers on.
At one point I had to make a right hand banking turn. There was no shoulder at all and only ditch on the side of the road. At another point on the road there was a creek with about a 6 foot drop off down into it. The wind was blowing and a couple of times I felt the truck start to slide in that direction. It was definitely pucker time.
This went on for about 15 miles or so.
I finally made it to US 6 and it was clear sailing from that point.
Ice Road Trucking is no fun! lol
Picked up a load at Heitman Steel headed to Cannon Automotive in Bowling Green.
I will leave out tomorrow and spend the night about 15 miles from there for a 6 am delivery.

My week went fairly well. The weekend got kinda messed up.
I delivered in Chicago on Monday, then went to the Tin Mill in East Chicago going to Quakertown PA. Then from Hanover PA to Orrville OH. Up to Cleveland to get super sacks going to Jarratt VA. Loaded back up at Jarratt heading back to Chicago for Monday.
I had to do a split sleeper in order to get the Jarratt load there on time. Of course that messes up your hours for later. After I got loaded it was already 4 in the afternoon and I could only drive until 6. I drove out my time and shut down, then left for the house after 8 hours(1:30 AM). Got home at 6 AM. Will have to leave out at 5 PM on Sunday and drive 6 hours. Then take a ten and finish it up Monday morning. I plan to get into Chi-Town around 2 (EST) and the load has to be there by 3(EST). Only way I could get my 34 in in.
During the week my cooler crapped out on me. So I had to buy a new one. Part of what had happened to the cooler was it melted the plug off the power cord. I put one on and it did it again. Had a fan that locked up. Well, then I bought the new cooler and within a few hours it melted the cord off of it too. Turns out the plug in I was using was bad. So now I have to replace the end of the new one and get an outlet replaced.
Had 175 on my Pilot card so the new one didn't cost anything. -
I got my replacement inverter from Cobra and it was bad....so it is being sent back again. Getting used to eating cold food on the truck! -
Just thought I'd jump in and say hey. I just finished Orientation at Maverick this week. Tomorrow I begin a couple of days running with another driver to get the hands on training running to the wells then I'll be on my own. I've been in trucking over 22 yrs. Yes, I'm a sand hauler so I'll be home every day.

you do the same.... -
I may not have to throw tarps or straps but since Orientation I've learned why they even have sand guys walk the plank. We have to walk the top of a rounded trailer about 12 ft off the ground with a tether so that if we fall we look like a carp flopping on a stringer.
Which I guess is better than being dead as a mackrel if we weren't tethered.
JimTheHut Thanks this.
