I drove down to Madison yesterday and had a nice ride. As I almost always tell on myself it is time again. On Friday I was running out of hours and wanted to get home.
I knew the load was correct because me and the shipper guy talked about it a couple of times. So for the first time ever I did not look to make sure that the consignee was correct. About 30 miles down the road I get a call asking me to go back because they gave me the wrong papers. When I informed alan about my hours he said he would just have them faxed to the csr and she would forward to him and he would email to me. I got a message saying that the papers never arrived.
So this morning I went into the csr and got the papers and everything was good to go. I will never make that mistake again.
Made my delivery and went back to Madison. Go the fuel filter changed and a new bracket for my fire extinguisher. Then off to Freightliner to get the roof sealed. After they did that I went down to service and they took my keys and walked away without giving me any idea when it would be done. So I ask him as it is only 1530.
He asks someone else and they say it will not even get looked at until midnight.
I said ok, I need a ride to the motel and that is where I am.
I will be also picking up my covered wagon this week. I went over and looked at them last night so I could get familiar with them. Should be interesting.

Thanks for all of the advice! I arrived in Jefferson Ga sunday evening so I would have a fresh start monday morning. Another rookie mistake is that on my work assignment it said my appointment time was 1000 at Olympic Steel (the coil from Portage that I was delivering there); so I thought that it meant I needed to be unloaded my 10am since that is Mavericks policy; boy was I WRONG again! Anywho, I showed up at 8am and the lady at the office said your appointment isn't until 10am, leave the property and don't come back until at least 0930. I was saying to myself on the way back to the truck, "I can't leave, heck I can't even back up; they're trucks behind me and in front of me. The only way forward is to drive through the building". I just sat there and a few minutes went by and a gentleman from the plant told me to pull up. I got out of the truck and told him that I was new and it was my first load that I had ever delivered and I explained to him about the appointment time and Mavericks policy about delivering before 10am on Monday. He was like, no need to be worried or scared that you messed up; just untarp your load and I will pull you right in. After that I had my load off at 9am and went to the office and the lady looked pissed but she didn't say anything. I just told her that the gentleman from her plant told me to pull in. After that I went to the truck stop and waited on my next load; which loaded out of Temple Inland. That's what I have on me right now and I am sitting at the consignee Masco Cabinet in OH, waiting on 6am to go check in. At least I will have a fresh start with all my hours for Wednesday. All I had left on my 11 when I got here today was 20mins. I was like whew cutting it close, but i wanted to get here before the ETA time that I put in this morning. I beat it by 15mins. Anyways, I will shush for now and get some rest. I get to fold both lumber tarps in the rain tomorrow morning, yay NOT! lol Be safe out there and hope all of you have a great rest of the week and weekend.
And on the comment about leaving the paper on the coil.... I have told all the guys that I went through orientation with, that if they go there to make SURE they take the paperwork off of the coil. I hope I don't make that mistake again! -
every time I roll the lumber tarps up in the rain, it stops raining as soon as I'm done.

I found that they are not very good communicating on the freightliner on troy when I went there to get my truck fixed and they failed to tell me it was going to be in there for the whole weekend!

I havnt posted here for a while, I have been busy in the road! Lol. Every day after I shutdown I try to take a shower, and then I crash! Lol!
As of right now I am here on Norris diver on rules, ok and trying to get a load assignment.
The company has got me home every weekend, specially very good the 2 times that I asked for req time off. Pay is great, averaging between 2000 and 2400 miless o far (including winter months) I have brought home abt 600-800 home every week after taxes. So it has been very good.
I also come from a different background. I used to do computer networking and due to the recession I couldn't find Good jobs. I gave trucking a try n found maverick. Not bad do far, trucking is definetly different. And from what I heard flatbed is a .lot more phisically challenging that regular box trucks, but is really easy.
For all the guys outhere that are looking for a company and don't mind gettin a little dirty once in a while, give them a try. Not a bad company.sewerman Thanks this. -
Wow 600 that is what you call good? that's horrible. You must be a newbie

Well it didn't rain after all when I got to Masco in Waverly, OH. Did you guys know that they are closing that plant down? The guy that is a mechanic there said that there use to be close to 3200 people who worked there and now only 200 and that most of them should be getting their notice this week. Anyway, I drove up to Columbus and got a shotgun coil and delivered it today in Talledega. I went over to US Steel in Fairfield and picked up two more shotgun coils going to Paragould tomorrow. My delivery time is for 1530-2300, but was told my the trainer that I had, that they receive 24hrs; so I called to verify and yep they do M-F 24hrs. My tarp jobs on my shotgun coils takes to many bungees and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I can't remember if you pin the "dog ears" first then the front or vice versa. I haven't had one blow off, but as I'm going down the road it acts like it wants to swell out; so when I stop for a load check, I put more bungees on areas where I think it needs them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
One more thing. Do they set the truck speed limits on new drivers to 62mph? Because that's all my truck will do. -
