The benefit is you are always legal. Most of us that have been around for awhile would prefer the days of paper logs and only having to match our fuel stops however those days are gone. The reason is when things are busy you can better utilize your hours with the flexibility of a paper log where thats not possible with e-logs. You can expect to average 2300-2400 mi a week on e-logs being home weekends. Think you'll just go to another company? Bad news, this is coming to ALL commercial trucks by 2014 (rule goes into effect Jan 2012). If by some miracle FMCSA backs off their rule, congress is already poised to make it law. So like it or not you will run these kind of logs soon.

I'm in Sand so we still use paper logs. We're the closest Maverick has to local drivers. We haul sand to gas wells as part of the fracking process.

Legally, we don't have to do logs but Maverick wants it. We also fall under the Oil Field exemptions when it comes to keeping a logbook. There is talk that we may go paperless sometime, but It won't match up with the same program they use for the rest of the fleet because we have a line 1A on our logbooks that we use while on the well pads. 1A allows us to go off duty, stopping our 14 and 70 hr clocks. We also only need 24 hrs off for a restart

Are the e-logs linked to your FM so they know what hours you have available each day to drive?

If you're thinkin you can cheat, you cant. Everything runs on the Qualcomm which is obviously hooked into Maverick. You run over your hours you WILL recieve a log violation. Are there times when it happens? Yes but the rules dont allow for exceptions,a violation is a violation is a violation. Be prepared to run legal here or dont hire on here PERIOD!

I don't want to run illegal. I wanted to know so I could be certain the FM couldn't force you to take a load and be illegal. I want to do things the right way from day 1. That's the reason I would choose Maverick over all the other flatbed companies out there, because they do things the way they should be done. Thanks for the info.:biggrin_25514:

If you get a load and don't have enough hours to make the pickup. You can either call or send your FM a message and let them know. There have been times that I have gotten a load and had plenty of time to go get it. But when you run into things you can't control; such as construction/wrecks; I have called my FM and told her that I was going to be late because of the above mentioned reasons. Communication is key here at Maverick. You can't communicate to much here. One instance week before last, I loaded at Certainteed in Milan, OH and only had 30mins on my drive line to find a parking spot for the night. I asked if they allowed overnight parking and they told me they did not. I called safety and let them know that the shipper would not allow me to stay on their property; so I was going to run out of hours while I was going to the nearest rest area/truck stop. If you are either on E-logs or Paper and that happens to you, just make a note on the drive line that says, "had to find safe haven". Safety will know what that means.
As far as the e-logs. I am on the e-logs and it keeps you honest. There isn't any cheating the system.
    Hope this helps.

Is MAVERICK using apu's on all there trucks now? I heard that they are requiring drivers to park with their engines off at night to save fuel and this is leaving a lot of drivers in very hot conditions at night to sleep in. Is this true, or just what are you drivers encountering out there?

Well, if you have an APU then the idea is that you don't NEED to idle the truck to be comfortable. That would in turn cause lower fuel consumption.

The new trucks (10's, 11's) are equipped with and EPU (electric power unit) and have a different MPG bonus scale.

As far as being "required" to shut the truck down, I don't think so, but most do because there is no reason to idle if you can stay comfortable w/o it.

If you are in a truck w/o a epu or your epu isnt functioning you are allowed to idle. Maverick does have a mandatory 6.5 mpg policy and you will only be given a couple warnings before they terminate your employment. (pay for fuel and you'll understand that policy) That being said Mavericks trucks can easily maintain 6.5 even idling at night unless you drive it wrong or never shut it off or a maintenance issue may cause it. Btw a maintenance caused low mpg wont get you fired.
