I am glad that I had never ridden in one of the new trucks before I got mine or I would have been more bothered than I already was about all of the new guys getting a new truck before guys like me.
From the first closing of the door, you can tell how much quieter it is going to be! I could hardly hear the engine start when I started it up for the first time.
I was not given any orientation on the truck...just here are the keys and see you later. Thankfully I could call sewerman and he helped me with the items that I did not understand.
The new electronic clutch on these things is amazing. You just barely touch the accelerator and it starts to move.
There is better visibility out the windshield, the mirrors are way better. The seat is amazing.
I do not think you have as much storage space as you had in the 07. I had to bring home two large duffel bags full of cloths plus what I had already taken out of the truck last weekend.
I like the cabinet doors but have to remember to close them or I will need to start wearing my helmet inside the truck.
The ride is no comparison. It is like going from an old volkswagon beetle to a new lexis. Unbelievable!
It made me want to put her on the highway and drive to California.
The APU is wonderful.....and the lighting reminded me of a boat....close the curtains and you are in your own little world.
After my first fill up I checked what it said I had used in fuel and what the mpg was, and it was spot on!
My truck must be different than the other cascadia's because I got better fuel mileage driving at 57 than I did at 62.
The only issue I have had so far is that the lights did not come on when you opened the door...which was no big deal. Then one time while I was getting ready to secure my load at moncure, the lights came on when I opened the passanger side door, and they would not go off. So I pulled the bulbs and put it on my list of things that will need to be addressed at freightliner when the list gets serious.
Also hearing all the complaints about the truck not having any power or the ability to move fast as when you pull out onto a street ect....In auto I agree with you. But if you manually shift it, it is no different than the 07. I was also able to pull fancy gap at 42 mph with 47,000 lbs of particle board on her....I thought that was pretty impressive....passed quite a few trucks up the hill including another Maverick.
So I am tickled pink with this new truck. The only thing that would make this truck nicer is if it had the bunk that turned into a work station like the Volvo's.
Great Great Truck!

What? Me play a joke? -
Just took my wife and daughter up to see the new truck. Closed the windshield curtains, turned on the stereo and the apu....I will no longer get any sympathy when I have to spend the night at the truck stop instead of them getting up early and taking me up there...lol....that is where I will be sunday night!

Yeah, JimTheHut, you had my husband and I worried as well. I read your post where it sounded like you had left Maverick to him while we were at Waffle House after picking him up from the terminal. So, tonight after we got home from an impromptu movie date (power and cable Internet were down due to a car hitting a power pole on our street), I saw your new posts and told him what he had truly happened and he said "Well, I am glad that is what really happened because I could not imagine someone up and leaving Maverick for what looked like no reason."
I am also glad to hear that things are going well for you, JimTheHut. -
