My BIL lives near Coolville. He had a canopy that was bolted to his deck get ripped off by the wind and it hasn't been seen since. They don't expect power back until the 4th. Gas stove is newer and has a safety feature to prevent gas flow without power. His basement also flooded with no pump to empty it and his car in the driveway was blown into the stoop. I'm sure the adjusters will be working overtime for a few weeks.

It was the strongest wind that I have ever seen up here. In places it was 80 mph!

We have just the opposite here in North Mississippi. No rain for 4 weeks now and 100+ degree days for a week. Everything is drying up. All the corn crops here are ruined and soybeans will follow if no rain in the next few days. Water bans are being put in place due to shortage of water and pressure. Burn bans so no fireworks are to be used. I've lived in the South all my life but it's never been this hot and dry that I can remember. I'm sure our next rain, if we ever see one, will be a storm of great magnitude. It always does this...the quiet before the storm. I have replaced my roof 3 times in the last 13 years due to straight line winds. I hope your clean up is minimal and that everyone is safe. Have a good and less eventful (no storm) week off.

Hope you get some rain soon! I got off very easy here....others all around me were not so fortunate and may be another week without power.

Jim, thanks for this thread, it's very informative. I graduated school this past Friday and I'm looking for my first driving job. I've applied at Maverick, finally got over the non issue of their automatics. I'm hoping I hear something from them tomorrow. Thanks again for your positive attitude and telling it like it is.

You are more than welcome! I was helped out by this forum in making my decision and want to help as many others as I can. As I have always said, Maverick is not perfect...but they do have a desire to be fair to the drivers and provide them with a means to provide for their families and be safe and as comfortable as they can be while doing it! I wish you the best of luck!

You do not have to drive the trucks in AUTOMATIC... You can drive them in Manual like I and many others do. There is no clutch- big deal. It saves the wear and tear on your knee which is good. Plus, in traffic- you will be so glad to have one of our trucks!

Good choice for you applying to Maverick. Good luck to you.

    JimTheHut and Bishop73 Thank this.

I have been trying to find information or videos of tarping glass on the flatbeds. And help out there?

I just can't understand the whole automatic/ manual debate... The way I see it, from 15 years of carpentry.... its like saying I prefer a manual hand crank drill over a power drill. Or I prefer to use a hand saw to cut with instead of a power saw. Or to hand drive all my nails with a hammer instead of use a nail gun... Ect. Ect.....

    jxu417 Thanks this.
