Short mile pay is when Maverick dispatches you on a run under a 300mi I think(been awhile since I was a company driver). They pay you extra to compensate for the short miles.

I go to NLR next weekend!! Excited and apprehensive at the same time.
-
Made it home for the weekend and I am taking off Monday so I am empty.
The most exciting part of the week was my load of banding that I took down to Gerogetown SC. I have been down there twice and both times there has been a hurricane in the gulf. I thought that I would be pretty safe as this one was down near New Orleans....no I was wrong.
They had record rainfall in Charlestown about 50 miles away. They said the town was closed all day.
On the way in there was a ton of water sitting on the roads and it made it very hazardous.
When I pulled in it was raining so hard that I could hardly see and I got drenched walking to the guard shack.
He told me he would split weigh me in and would flash the light to pull up. I could not even see out of my window so I had to get out twice to go back and make sure he had the weight.
He then tells me how to cut through the plant to go back and get unloaded.
The mud road was completely covered with water and you could not even see which way to go.
They had a pump shooting up water it seemed 50 feet in the air and it was a total white out.
When I finally figured out which was the right way to go, there was a big crane in my way.
He thought I had room to get by but did not. He finally turned his crane around to look and could see I could not make it. So he crawled over and got out of my way.
When the guy came down he told me to untarp. I told him the metal would get wet because the plastic was not water proof. He suggested that I pull the tarp back and forth as he took the skids off.
I told him that it would take forever. I suggested that I back into the building that would hold three semi's. He had a deer in the headlight moment and then thought that it was a good idea.
They had a shift change so I had to wait for the next guy. I had a preplan to pick up there so I knew I would be spending the night and was in no hurry.
Finally got unloaded and had to go back through the plant and out the main gate to go around and get loaded just 25 yards from where I unloaded.
There was only one truck in front of me, so it was no big deal.
Got loaded and then had to tarp my load of slinkies that they loaded me wet as they were sitting outside....go figure.
Went over and parked in their other lot and was the only truck spending the night.
All in all a good week. Did over 2400 miles and got to come home for labor day as I requested.
Hope you all have a good weekend! -

You do not have to wait for a recruiter to come to your school to get the ball rolling at Maverick. -
