After my delivery in Massillon, I got deadheaded down to Columbus Coatings to pick up a single coil. This has to be in Talladega for a Monday delivery at 0900. I plan to run down there tomorrow and spend the night so I will have a full clock for Monday.
I had an interesting thing happen to me on Thursday. While coming across US 460 from Gladys Va, I noticed trucks pulled over and state troopers everywhere. As I passed the last one, I made sure I was not speeding, which I try never to be. I looked in my mirrors as I passed the one in the median and did not see him come after me. Shortly afterwards I head on the radio, "Maverick, You got one on your tail". I had a lumber load, so I could not see directly behind me unless I leaned out and looked. Sure enough, there were blue lights. So I went until I found a place where I could pull off the road and did so. The cop comes running up to my door and says..." YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME AND LOOK IN YOUR MIRRORS. YOU COULD H AVE PULLED OFF BACK THERE.....NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" My guess is that they were doing inspections and it was not safe for him to do it where I pulled over, so he had to let me go. My mirrors are set up to see just outside the sides of my trailer, so when someone is right on my tail, I can not see them. So mister smokey, if you would pulled out into the left lane, I would have seen you......sorry I did not get to have an inspection because the last time I won $500....lol
Hope you all have a nice weekend!

    Sarge,
If Maverick is the way I go, I will definitely take advantage of the trainer. While I may not be particularly enthused about living in close confines with a stranger, I have learned that supervised learning is a whole bunch easier than "reinventing the wheel". If the trainer thinks I have my stuff together before the 21 days, great, but the stress has to be lower when you have experience under the tutelage of a "master".

It was a pleasure to serve and thank YOU for your recognition of that service.

I had to do 21 days with a trainer due to not having experience. I can't speak for every driver/trainer, only my personal experience. It was about 20 days too long! It's done and over with now, but I can promise you I didn't learn 21 days worth of knowledge....or even close to it. Again, this is my experience only! Some people may benifit more than I did.

And when you evaled out, I hope you let Maverick know of any issues you had with your instructor about the way he was doing things, otherwise, if your instructor is still "instructing", more than likely, he's still doing the same stuff he did to you when you were aboard that left you with the opinion you have of him. IE, If he was a lazy arse that sat on his inside the truck while you were out in the heat/cold doing everything on your own, the entire time you were in the truck with him, that's just not right. Its modern day slavery. Some trainers have what I've heard called, "dog week" where the student does everything on his/her own during that time but I don't. Students and I work on everything together, and by week three or before, its role reversal time when the student becomes the instructor and they tell me how to do everything. If they can do that, tell someone how to do something properly while showing them how to do it, then obviously, they can do it themselves. BELIEVE ME, the feeling about "too long" is mutual when it comes to some students but a true professional instructor has to put aside things that have nothing to do with the job when it comes to students performance in the trainer truck. I've had some that I hated to see go and I've had some that I can honestly say, I was glad they finally "got it" so they could.

I guess he was too stupid to realize you couldht see him due to your lumber load and that he should have hugged the center so his lights where visible. DUH! Ive never had a cop not hug the center when Ive had one pull me over, load or no load.

Well it was an interesting week. Picked up Sunday out of Gary going to Paris Texas. Delivered in Paris Monday afternoon they get sent to Shreveport to pick up to the morning going to Houston. That sucks no freight down there. That load delivers Wednesday so I delivered Wednesday morning.

Then I go find a place to park. I am parked by 8 Am I sit till a little after three that I get a message head back to Shreveport thinking to myself sweet give me a load heading up by Fort Smith or Louisville. But on the way there I get my next load pickup tonight going to versales Missouri. That sucks.

Get to Shreveport I only have about 30 trucks in front of me waiting to load. 230 in the morning im finally loaded. Finish my break and head towards Missouri. Got a good hard rain all the way to Little Rock pickup 65 N. out of Little Rock that's when the freezing rain starts. Make it just north of the Springfield called it a day.. Up Friday at daylight to finish the last hundred miles in. Some bad spots all in all not bad.

Made my delivery at 9 AM that I get sent to Boonville Missouri pick up a load of fiberboard going to just north west of Chicago. Get there to Boonville it took them one hour just to move the snow out of the way to get to the material. Three hours later loaded and headed for home. Made it home Saturday by noon.

Have a great weekend, drive safe and enjoy the ride.
