On the way to east chicago, I got a message from my fleet manager saying that it looks like you will be there tomorrow, so please update your eta. I was also figuring that I could deliver a day early and was planing on making a call to see if it was possible. The next morning when I am just a couple of hours out, I get another message from her saying, are you going to be able to deliver today? So I gave her a call to make sure I understood the message. She asks me if they will let me unload early. I told her that since she told me to update my eta for an early delivery, that she had already checked that out before telling me to deliver early. I told her that I did not know and if they did not, I would just go back to the Gary yard.
So I arrive at the receiver and go in and ask the guy how he is doing. " Alot better than you he says" I said why is that? "Are you the Maverick that just came over the bridge?" I said yes! " We don't have any Mavericks scheduled for today! I told him that it was scheduled for tomorrow but was told to come on it. "You can't just come in here a day early! You will have to call and get another appointment"! Is there anyone that I can talk to here I said? " Go in that office and see if they can help you!" So I go in and explain to the guy in the office...."You can't just come in here a day early! You should know that!" Sir, I am just the truck driver and doing what I was told to do! "Well, your dispatchers know this!" Yes sir, I am sorry, Is there anyway that I can get a new number?..." Sure, no problem,,But they should know that!" i told him I would update the instructions on the qualcom so the next driver would know what was to be done.
So I got unloaaded and got a load to pick up in Portage at US steel going to Greenville Pa. Now I had asked to be home on Friday at 11:00 so, I was wondering how that was going to work out with every load that I got. This was only 372 miles so it put me right inside Pa.
When I got there, I checked in and then wanted to move my truck up a bit. It would not turn over, no matter what I did, so I truned off the power switch and everything worked fine.
After I unloaded, I got a load to pick up at Shippenville Pa going to Tiffin Ohio. Had never been there before and it turned out to be a nice place.
There were two drivers from a company that I had never seen before. They helped each other tarp their loads completely and then left together.
There was a Maverick behind me, who could not pull in until I got my tarps on. Think he would come in and help me roll out my tarps so I could get out of his way....no way. I think he should get the purple turd award.....lol.
Was told after my unload at 0600 in Tiffin, to just head for the house.
So Maverick not only got me home two hours before my requested time off, I ended up with 2700 miles for the week! Can't beat that!

Nice that you OTR Guys can actually request a day off. The dedicated PFP program knocks us like 10 points if we are not available ONE DAY out of the quarter. No more special requests for us if we want to have more than a measly $5 per week "Bonus." Oh yeah, we don't get extra cpm bonus, we get up to a grand total of $70 per month if we hit all the goal thresholds. I knew that this PFP program was going to screw the dedicated drivers. Not happy...

nobody forces you to stay on a dedicated account.
what you guys get paid on that dedicated I figured you would be used to the screwing by now. Nothing personal I just don't think it's worth it. But if it works for you that's all that matters.

I start on my new dedicated account next week. I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath that it is going to work out. In the last 3 weeks over the road, I have cleared a little over $1400 combined, not counting tuition reimbursement or fuel bonus so I'm not sure how it could be much worse. And I will be home more. I see the home time for otr getting worse in the future with the new HOS....for Maverick as well as everyone else. I can see drivers staying out 2 weeks at a time as the standard, and I'm want to be home more than that so I figured I would give this a try.

Longest job interview I've ever experienced and attitude, studying for the drug test, not following directions, seem to be the top 3 reasons why potential Mavericks become "bus ticket or equivalent thereof to get you back home?"....good riddance to 'em

Yeah, I've heard several times that attitude is the #1 reason why guys get sent home, if you don't count medical issues. I think it's why they have the whole "don't walk on the grass" policy... That's a test. If you can't follow a simple direction like that, and you don't have enough decency to respect the hard work they out into the landscaping, then you don't need to be working here.
