I'll be back after an 8 month vacation starting next week. I drove glass for 1.5 years from 2015-2016.

When I stopped driving last year I didn't quit, just told my FM that I would be turning in the truck in 2 weeks and would return in the summer.

Apparently it doesn't matter if you quit or not. If you are gone long enough they will still send you back through orientation and then give you a truck so I'll get paid 1000 a week to sit through classes that I already know like the back of my hand, lol. Anyway, I'm sure I forgot something and never knew the flatbed stuff very well anyway since I only did 3-4 flatbed loads out of 100's.

Just found out today that they are paying 1y experienced drivers a bonus of 5000 dollars to drive for Maverick. I was already going back anyway, never intended to quit, so that's just free money.

    JimTheHut,
I've been reading your/this thread from the beginning... just started. I got to page 60... and the suspense got to me so I skipped to the end. Glad to see you still here, happy and doing your thing.

Question: I saw my first Maverick Truck today, 20 miles North of downtown Dallas (HWY 75, headed north, about 3:20pm). He was hauling (most likely) OS board or some sort of plywood or drywall. I spotted the solid tarping job, the clean trailer, then the headache rack, then (of course) the immaculate and clean Maroon tractor. Would it do him any good if I were to call in to Maverick and pay him a compliment (safe driving, squared away tarps, clean tractor) ??

Also, do you know of any North Texas Mavericks who would be willing to have their ear bent with some questions? I'm sort of pondering a career change, Maverick is in the top two I'm looking at, but... it looks like we live on the fringe of the operating area. I've read and watched a ton, but I'd really need to speak to a local Maverick in my area to make an informed decision. Please reply here or PMs are fine.

Thanks, and again, so glad to see you posting here.

    c

Sorry it took me so long to see your post. It would definitely do the driver good to pay a compliment to him. As far as bending a drivers ear, I can find out if any of the drivers from that area would be willing to talk to you. Some drivers love to answer questions, some just want to drive, but I will find out for you.
I just sent an email off to my boss who will get with the fleet managers and see what we can do. If you have any questions you want to bounce off of me, I would be happy to help you.

    Thanks for reaching out!

I just got back from my annual meeting at the main office in North Little Rock. The place never ceases to amaze me and remind me of my good fortune to start and will for sure end my trucking career with them.
I spent some time with Kirk, who runs the training department. He informed me that they are now getting away from the spiral manuals that we have used for years and are now going to tablets for all the students. So when you start Orientation you will be given a tablet and you will turn it in when you go out with your trainer.
So now you will have access to all the training videos and information wherever you are....so this will be great for doing your home work. Got a question, it is all right there on your own tablet. I think that is excellent.
He also showed me how that even though you are in a class, you are treated as an individual student. Everything that you do is tracked and they know exactly where you are excelling and where you need additional help. If you have a good attitude, a good heart, and a willingness to learn, they will do whatever it takes to make you successful. If you don't care, neither will they and you will not make it.

I was shown a driver who was struggling out in the fleet and was getting .0 on their Pay for Performance Bonus. That means they were doing everything poorly. A driver like that is not going to last at any company.
They started working with that driver and analyzed where he needed help and worked with them. That driver is not maxing out at .06 per mile bonus and now is looking at being an over the road instructor.

That is the culture of Maverick! We want you to be a success and reach your fullest potential and will walk the extra miles with you to get you there, if you are willing to put forth the effort!

I mentioned to my wife this morning that no other company in my entire working life has made me feel more appreciated for what I do and treated me better than Maverick!
If you have any questions, please ask me! I want to share!!!

Not desperate, but with the economy picking up which includes gas, oil, and coal, many students and experienced drivers are opting for that vs over the road. This is a regular occurrence in trucking. So if we can pick up an experienced driver that meets our standards, it is money well spent...But if we were desperate, we would lower our standards which we are not going to do ever!

What if a new driver has a tablet, could they down load videos and info to be referred to later?

You should suggest the Maverick Securement app!
