I'm a new driver looking into Maverick. However, I'm recovering from major knee surgery and I'm a heavy, short guy (5'6 325). I've been fairly strong despite my health, but Mt. Maverick has me worried. Is it automatic fail if I can't climb up unassisted? Can I use a step ladder or stool if I provide it? I know that sounds dumb, but I would imagine a trucker or 2 out there carries a small ladder to get up onto the 13' loads....

What happened to JimtheHut? He’s been gone for a long time. Wondering if he left trucking altogether?

I don't believe that you are allowed to use a ladder but there is a rolled up tarp that you can stand up and use to stand on to boost yourself up but most can get up there without it.
I'm not sure why they expect you to climb up like that without a ladder since they do expect you to bring a ladder on the truck and they may have even changed all this. The newest glass trailers have ladders installed on the front and back so something must have happened in the past couple years. -

I am still alive and kicking! I lasted two weeks at YRC. Smart decision since they just went bankrupt. I tried fuel hauling twice and finally decided that it was not for me. I hauled food waste, gravel, manure and salt for a local company until they could not keep me busy enough. My last job was with CPC Logistics on the John Deere account. It was a dedicated route in which I relayed trailers back and forth from Columbus it Covington Indiana. It was the easiest trucking job I ever had. I recently took the summer off and am now looking to go back to work. Not sure if it will be trucking or something else. I am 71 years old and still in great shape. I will keep you all posted what I decide to do. Thanks!

Things are happening pretty quick. The company that I thought I would go to work with does not have any open trucks at the moment. It is the company I hauled for in the past. So I put out a couple of applications and the one that sounded like it would work the best for me was with Schneider in their intermodal division. It is only a 20 mile drive to pick up my truck and I am home every night. I am scheduled for orientation next Monday in Chicago. It is going to be very strange being back in an orientation. Its only for a week, so I guess I can handle it...lol. I became very good friends with one of their recruiters when I was doing recruiting for Maverick. He said it is a pretty good gig and the manager is a great guy. We shall see!
Speed_Drums and motocross25 Thank this.
