I help as much as I possibly can, but you are correct. The ETAP system that they have now and the upcoming electronics logs is going to make it more difficult.

I have used some of my driving time before to help someone who REALLY needs it. When you are trying to use lumber tarps in 30 MPH winds a second set of hands is an absolute lifesaver. Same with getting them back in the box.

    Be careful out there!!

i try but get a bit long in the tooth if i get going. Btw, driver 2 did make it safely to the delivery and he was one of the 5 other maverick drivers that was helping, untarp, unsecure, etc the line of trucks out to the road at the delivery.

but lets call the next guy driver 3: He made it a point to tell one of the 5-7 drivers that was helping everyone (other than driver 3 everyone helped anyone) driver 3 told one of the other drivers..."i've been here 2 years and that's not the way we're supposed to tarp."

so to driver 3 may i say: I've been here 3 years and there was nothing wrong with the way the driver's load was tarped. In fact sir, it looked better than your's!!! I'm so sorry that the driver's tarp upset you to the point that you had to go sit in your truck while the rest of us did what true maverick driver's are supposed to do and help each other but next time after you tell him what's wrong with his tarp, show him how to fix it because after you walked back to your truck, he looked at me and asked me "wth was he talking about?" it completely covered the coil, and the boards of the coil rack, the excess tarp was tucked underneath both front and rear and there were no gaps between the tarp and the trailer.
i told him this and while you were in your truck, i showed him how they are teaching the students to tarp by putting all the excess to the rear and having the very last D rings against the front of the load if that is what you were referring to. Only you and the interior of your truck would know.

The biggest pain was having it unloaded one pallet at a time in an icy parking lot. The operator could only remove one at a time...there were over 50 of them. It took hours.:biggrin_2556:

Now say what you mean truck driver don't candy coat it. I'll bet he went to super truck driver school to learn how to criticize.

my last week never ended, I'm still out. My first weekend out in three months, so I can't #####.
And Sarge, I know who you are after you mentioned the excess tarp in the front trick, You showed me that trick in Ghent.
It's a shame about the attitude of some of our drivers, I know I've had to help a new driver twice with his securments because some ####### told him he didn't need something. I usually get crap for "oversecuring",

myself and other mavericks appreciate your help out there. especially with the newbies. we've all been there, new, and having someone that knows the Maverick way of doing things is especially helpful.

Criticism is one thing, but constructive criticism is alot more helpful especially with someone new. Had driver 3 that i described told that driver that's not how maverick wants us to tarp, and then shown him what he was talking about, would have been alot better than just criticising the drivers tarp and walking off.

I know of one driver that when delivering to central states in lowell, ar with a bunch of other Maverick drivers, just went down the line criticising how they had done things, loudly and in front of all the other drivers. He told one driver he had something wrong with his load, and when he found out the driver had worked for Maverick for 3 years, he said i dont have to tell you whats wrong with it, you've been here 3 years you should know better. How that guy, ever got the leather jacket shall we say,? i don't know.

As far as "oversecuring" a load, i too have been accused of the same. I was outside the building, out of his and everyone elses way, and i guess the guy just wanted to argue. So he just kept blabbering as i put two extra straps over the coil to make my tarp look better. I asked him to either help me roll my tarps out or go bug someone else....he walked away.

Put as many securements on it as you want, to make yourself feel safe to drive it. But please, just do it without holding up everyone waiting to load

Road Boss and dollylama Thank this.
