Your best bet would be a company driver until you learn the ropes so you don't go belly up. In todays world after you learn the ropes you might still go belly up.![]()

Ok, here are a few answers I know from experience. I arrived # Prime via Greyhound on Monday. Tuesday morning was physical and drug test. Classes in the afternoon. Wednesday was study for permit test. (I don't have a cdl yet). Wednesday afternoon, take test. Thursday go to DMV to get permit, then more study time. Friday go to pad to start working in truck. Friday afternoon comes comdata cards/id and your first advance of 240.00 put on the card. They start pairing up students with instructors Friday, and as instructors arrive in Springfield, they are assigned new students. Some students may have to wait a few days extra til thier instructor arrives. During that first week, you are given meal tickets that you can use either at the hotel or at the Millenium building for all meals. If you don't get out Friday, you are given a few more tickets, as well as your 240.00 advance. Once you leave with your truck, you will continue to get the 240.00 advance for up to 4 weeks more while learning. Once you get your 100 hours behind the wheel with an instructor, you will return to Springfield for you testing. After passing, you will be assigned a driver/trainer to run with for 50,000 dispatched miles. During that time, you will be given a 600.00 per week or .12 per dispatched mile the truck does each week....whichever is greater. The previous advances will be taken out at 25.00 per week.

heres a little on lease operators say you get a trk lets say new from prime you pay wkly on this trk so you want to run hard and save as much as you can cause when you go home your payment doesnt stop you can and many do get in the hole on trk payments real quick .you need to run your trk as if it was a seperate company .dont stop all the time or sit in trk stops this will break you fast. if you got to be away from home you mite as well b making money. also you will need to get to no your freight and the areas they send you.example i get payed by linehaul percentage 72% of it plus 100%fuel surcharge so i get a load say from cali to florida going in pays real good but if your new or dont know the area you could be in for a real deal breaker cause freight coming out of florida dont pay very good and you may have to wait for something as it can be slow there. i usaully deadhead to alanta area and get anotheir good load going to say omaha.as for your location you are in a very good area we do alot of loads for jevic in markingham ill to delanco nj drp n hook go right back delanco nj to markingham ill. unless you own your trk lease trks and company trks come from prime yard .
