    Joe,
Good luck in your mid life career change. I got my CDL at 57 after 38 years driving a desk at TWA.
I was lucky as I escaped the OTR route and have a nice job pulling a flatbed hauling concrete pipe local in KC area. I do like driving and we do on occasion get up to OMA or DSM.
Hey, driving is fun and old guys rock....:biggrin_25525:

I gotta couple question's for ya. From what I understand they provide lodging? Also how do the meal ticket's work? Are they for 1,2, or 3 meal's a day and are they cheap meal's like a bagel in the morning, bologna sandwich for lunch and God knows what for dinner or is it better than that to where you actually feel like you got something in your stomach? Do I need to bring any money to get through the first week or so like most of these companies? And one really major issue, what about transportation to the school from ones home and back and forth from the hotel to the school? If I can go with them without little to no dimes in my pocket then tell me where to sign! Now I'm just curious as to do they let you come home during training or do you have to stay at home with your trainer? A solid 3-6 months on the road without home time I can't do but I can handle a month. As long as they don't try and stick me in a lease truck and put me in a company truck then I'm good!

Sound's like your having a good time. If all the above agree's to my spec's then I'm on the ball to fill out an app.

they will pay for bus ticket to springfeild you arrive at bus station tell the preson at the counter you need prime shuttle to hotel .prime owns the hotels there are 2 and they sit next dr to each otheir. training is in the motel confernce rms as far as class and physical .you get 3 meals a day and they are full meals from the on site cafe.you may need a few dollars if you eat say more then the norm or like to snack.they will tell you about both options company and lease but you cant lease till your done training and i presonally suggest not to till after 1 year so you can see what is going on and decide then.prime has shuttle vans that will take you around free of charge go to walmart or to millinium blding . your meal tickets are good at the millinum also you can get full steak dinners if you like here. millinum has the following for you to use any time .barber shop/store/laundry 50cents to wash 25 to dry/massege tharpist/doctors office/post office/full gym /basketball court/weightrooms/and exerise equipment./pool tables /drivers theater /two driver lounges/inter net ports and some computers. :biggrin_2559:

i pull a refeer for the simple fact that it gives me more options on freight i can load dry freight if need be .if i go to say cali with dry load i will be in better shape coming out with as most freight is produce which needs refeer to haul.i dont notice the noise anymore unless the refeer shuts off its like living near railraod tracks u get use to it.as far as trk stops goes they got enough noise in them trhat the refeer is the last thing i worry about. my apu makes more noise then some of them. flatbeds keep u in shape trapping/untrapping chains straps.tankers can b a handfull if you dont get the right training.rules to remember about each.refeer never let it run out of fuel make sure when you fuel top it off everytime this will save you much unwanted work .flatbeds trap it like it was yours and secure it properly no short cuts use whats needed to secure that load and theres no such thing as to much.tankers never take yor eyes off the trk when loading or unloading when you do stupid stuff happens. also remember most refeer/tankers most be washed out after unloading for your next load this will take up some of your time.i belive you have better chance of getting a trainer if you go refeer but not sure. aalso on the otheir questions your time out during training is. solely up to your trainer try to find one in your area this will get you home more often during this period. dont be afraid to ask him /her when yous frist meet it makes for along training period if your home sick and such be up front with them they respect you more for your honesty .:biggrin_2559:

WOW! I'm down with the clown! :smt066:sign5: Yea, I can deal without the lease program. The cost of fuel, tire's, road tax's, truck payment's, etc. Na, I'm good. Everything else sound's great though. Sound's like they are driver friendly when it come's to company driver's. Do the company truck's have the same basic spec's as the lease's? Thank's for the info Shortround.

i train and when i go home which is every 26 days my co driver has a choice we can try to get near his house where i will drop him off and run solo to my home or he can stay on and come to my home where my family will gladly have them and stay their. however if they go to their home they must remember one you dont get payed well at home and two it may take longer for me to get back around to pick them up i live in lake placid ny and will have to run out as solo till i get load going by their home. by the way we do not call yous trainees out on the road you are co drivers this elimnates all the bs from the super truckers at trk stops cause if you listen real well everyone of them was born a trk driver and can do anything their is in trking better then the next guy none of them ever started at the bottom and had to learn how they were naturals from day one
