my frist trainer gave this to me as im only 5 foot 5 inches and had a belly then he would laugh cause he was 6 foot 9 and could reach everything up high . i made adjustments i have a small ladder i keep in trk for loads or repairing the shuts on inside of trl. no you dont have to have haz-mat but it will help you .look at like this your in west virigina ready to roll but the only loads avable are haz-mat loads no haz -mat means your sitting waiting well someone else just got loaded and is making money,haz-mat is not a big deal.make sure load is secured /braced /blocked or whatever .load locks in place, check your paper work with what you see are the containers labeled /do they match what it said was in there right number of containers. if good close the drs seal it up lock on it .plcards on each side of trl tape the sides of plcards so they cant blow out or be stolen off. due a walk around check everything if its all good your on your way .remember the prepass is no good if you have haz-mat on you must stop at scales if there open. drive on like you own the place most of time i get green light . paper work on haz-mat must be in your reach well seat belted in seat i put mine in the dr everytime .besides most of our haz-mat loads are on pre loaded trls you just hook up and go over paper work.chaces are when you train no matter who you go with they will give you a nickname of some sort.:biggrin_25522:

I wouldn't mind pulling an ice box. I'd rather it over a tank any day. I'm used to the reefer anyway so no bigger to me. Liquid is harder to stop anyway and much more care has to be taken. Some companies will and do haul Haz-Mat in reefer's so it would just be better off to have the HM endorsment.

i heard tanker is difficult cause your load is never stable and you got all that force pushing you...whats it like on the downgrades

Well, I've never pulled a tanker. I did drive a crew cab chevy pickup truck pulling a horse trailer that was loaded pretty much weekly with 25 55gallon drum's of herbicide chemical and somewhere between 20-30 box's of powdered chemicals on top. I've pulled a many of trailer's but that was the first full of liquid and I didn't like it. it's harder to slow down and stop. Once you do get stopped you can feel the stuff sloshing around behind you making you have to apply more pressure to the breake pedal in order to keep it from pushing you out into intersection's a little at a time every time it sloshed forward.:biggrin_2551: I haven't gotten the chance to pull beer in a big truck but just from riding, it doesn't seem all that bad because it's bottled/canned up. The bigger the container the more it can take. The more it take's, the more it weigh's and bigger tank's allow for more movment.
No, your load isn't stable in a tanker. A slight jerk of the wheel could cause it to slosh from side to side making it difficult to keep on the road. To much could possibly flip you over. The law of physic's come in to play a lot more here.:biggrin_2558:

Ha ha. I don't see how but those guy's said I was the best they had ever seen backing in a trailer. All the other guy's they had couldn't do it to save their life. Quik drop and hook's. The truck was about the same length of the trailer if not just a bit longer so that was like trying to "push a rope". They were also amazed that I was able to hook up a trailer ball without any help very quikly. The trailer was WAY to heavy to try and shake back and forth to get it over the ball if I had missed a little bit so there wasn't anyway of cheating.

The chemical I was hauling was very heavy stuff. Worse than water. It looked like clean motor oil but stunk like you wouldn't believe.
