Well I hope it works out for you. I been with Boyd for a while (Aug 2008), Lease purchase a truck from Boyd (Truck #11610) and I like. Just don't let the Boyd Drivers that sit at terminals all day long get you thinking differently. Its all of what you make of it.

    Poa Triv Thanks this.

Hello Brand New Trucker, the hotel is OK, not the best. You will more likely share a room with somebody unless you're lucky enough to get somebody that live in B'Ham and they rather go home. They have a pool there too. Orientation, you will be in class for 5 days but if you been flatbedding before, on the 5th day, you get your truck. Basically that first week is getting your paperwork straight like health, dental, w-2, your application you submitted, company policies, all the ins and outs. I also been hearing about some endurance test people have to take now which is climbing up a ladder and lifting a lumber tarp above your shoulder I think. Might want to keep an eye out for that. Hope this helps.

32cpm under one million safe miles, 42cpm with 1mil+. You will be thrown into a hand me down truck, one that looks like it just crawled out of hell. That is only because, Boyd is getting new 2012-2013 Pornstar's, they are being filtered into the fleet. Their stripeless, the wingman on the trucks only puts the brakes on when you have the cruise set, BUT, it takes a picture of what the driver was doing at the time of the brake. Other than that it beeps.

Gwen at the cincy terminal is nice, the 2 dispatchers working for her aren't the pick of the crop. If you have one up there, you will get crap loads because that's all they get. All dispatchers look at the loads, but the bigwig terminal's see it first. So all the good stuff is gone...

Jason runs the million buck video game.

Wade is the one that sends the fleet massage in the morning, and will ditch at you for idling.
Just say: "Well excuse me for recharging my APU!"

A few auto's are still here, but you have to lease to get one unless your lucky. Yup, 99% manual.

Insert name your info is a little off. They pay students $.38 a mile. Also pay doesn't change with a million miles, the only thing a million miles gets you is a one time bonus check, a sticker on the side of your truck, and a couple extra MPH from the truck. Also I ran into I guy i knew from when I drove there a few months back and he told me that all the 9400 where gone. So any new student would be getting a 08 or newer Pro Star. It really just depends on what they have ready when your ready to go, there where students in my class that got brand new trucks.

As for manuals or auto's, they only had a few auto's. The MPG guy Jason hated them and was trying to get rid of them, so who knows if they have any autos left.

For the students asking about Boyd I think there a great company to get your start with. But for me thats just about it, get your year or two in and move on to bigger and better things. Of course thats my opinion you may want to stay till you retire.
