The only thing that Foodservice has over LTL or Freight is that it never slows down. There's always work. Basically it's a for sure paycheck and no layoffs. Everyone gotta eat.

I agree with this. however it appears ltl is strong around here. I'm on the bottom of the totem pole here and I'm doing ok. we had no layoffs or forced time off.

Yes right now. Back in 08 the only job that didn't layoff was Foodservice. Didn't matter what LTL company you worked for it was dead. If a recession ever hits, diesel and gas hits 4.00+ again freight will die over Foodservice. Plus the Foodservice company I worked for was Union and you got atleast 40hrs a week min in pay. I was working for FedEx CC at the time I was scratching by like everyone else was.

Right. I retired in early 08, before the layoffs hit. But I could see it coming, without doubt. I had enough whiskers that I don't think I would have been laid off. but who knows?

    Radman Thanks this.

I was running a drill rig in 08, feast or famine. it was kind of nice to make 15k a month for 3-4 months then take it easy for a couple.

    Radman Thanks this.

I worked at a pizza shop and an office furniture parts manufacturing company in 2008. Somehow I managed to hold on to 2 jobs while the economy was in a huge depression.

Radman and Big Don Thank this.

Would a ltl or food service job allow you off for a weeding and honeymoon when you first start working there if you tell them up front

It's happened here quite a bit. Most food service companies are desperate enough to work with you. All you can do is ask.

Yeah at the start of the year 09 me and my buddy ran team for a flat bed company Cast here. They had a contract to run that glow in the dark stuff for reactors. It was non stop loads coast to coast every week. I was making great money for the next 3 years. I lucked out. Everyone needs Food or Power.
