Thanks for serving Xeebodog. I spent 4years myself in the army and wish I had stayed. I have been a Press operator for close 20 Years till I got the ax in March this year. Also looking into trucking cuz there is nothing out here. Good Luck to you and keep us posted on your journey if ya can.

I don't wish I stayed...but thanks, it was an honor, and one of the best decisions I made in my life. Yeah, not many "good" jobs out there...but I believe trucking will really be an awesome career, and am looking forward to all of it.

btw, finally talked to the people in millington, apparently will have opportunity on the second day to work on my gibill stuff. For those of you going this weekend, and further down the line, I'd make sure you bring everything....recruiter has told me I don't need my birth cert or the full physical form (used it to get my permit), but on the school website it says plainly to bring both and also your DL, CDL permit, SS card...gives alternate id's such as dd214. Might be worth a looksee; I don't wanna have to come back over something minor!

Xeebodog, Longshot and Crackhead,
Good luck to all of you in Millington. I was there late May-early June. Been solo since early August. Don't know exactly how I can help you all but I'll be glad to share anything about my meager experience with Swift.
Again, good luck!

thanks oldnew...always good to know people that been through what you're about to go through yourself.

Thanks oldnew feel free to interject if you have a clue about any of this? IE: After two weeks at Millington? then what? home time, orientation?
yea I was thinking about that and looking at the Swift terminals looks like Columbus is gonna be your home terminal too? I know testing is done in your home state the road work I was told they do out of the home terminal probably local/dedicated runs heck your guess is as good as mine. -
Unless things have changed in the last few months you will go back to your home state a be trained for about a week by a Swift road trainer. Basically, you will spend the week learning what you need to learn to pass the CDL driving test, including doing thorough pre-trip inspections. You will not (again, unless things have changed) haul any freight. Once you complete this training and pass your CDL road skills test, you will return to your home terminal for orientation and mentor-assignment.Longshot64 Thanks this.
