Got my invite this week. Driving up that morning early, nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I have been reading this forum for a couple months and all the people telling their experiences has been awesome in helping me make the decision to choose Prime. It is nice to see the experienced guys sharing their knowledge.
I am curious about the first day a physical, drug test then interview. Who is the interview with and what all do they ask?
Next question I only live 45 minutes from springfield is there any advantage to staying up there versus driving back and forth for the week. I have never heard how long the orientation days are.
Heading to Prime the 23rd

Welcome aboard, and good luck!

The interview is with Prime staff and they will be verifying ur application info with what their personal investigation has uncovered. So dont lie about or leave out anything on application because they will find out and u will be sent home with no questions asked. Even if a lawyer or judge said it was expunged from ur record u better mention it. Our class of 39 is now a class of 13 who actually made it out on the road with instructors. Same with drugs. If u have used drugs in the last 90 days, they will know. U cannot beat their test...just stay home because the head of security will embarass u and Prime will not pay ur way back home if u fail. (Not saying u personally use drugs but this is for others who may read ur thread).
If I were u I would just stay there because u CANNOT be late for anything!!!!!! Uu dont want car trouble or traffic to have u late so why chance it? Also, if u can, go get ur permit before u go...it will make life so much easier while u r there. Hope this helps. -
I agree with Dennis. Remember the entire time you are there, you are being interviewed. Prime is a huge company, they want the best. The whole thing is one big interview to see if they want you.

Good luck man. Prime is looking like my choice as well if I can ever get my ducks in a row. Start your own thread if you have time. You're in for a ride my friend, I hope you enjoy yourself.

Thanks for the information I really appreciate it. I had not realized they went that in depth. Is that just from the online application you fill out?
-
You'll fill out the entire thing again at orientation in pen and ink... that will be checked back against your online app.
The FMCSA requires that all driver applicants have their background checked in depth. Beyond that, most carriers will do a very thorough check to ensure that an applicant isn't a ringer - many folks try to get around a bad series of tickets or an accident that would disqualify them from driving by omitting them from their applications. If they get in another accident and the omissions are found by a personal injury attorney, the settlement for something like that can be devastating to a carrier.Sevendogs Thanks this. -
The only thing I worry about is some medication I take. I am going to get a letter from my doctor and send it up to my recruiter tomorrrow. My recruiter was not much help when I was asking him about the medicine. I want to have that cleared up before I get up there and have trouble. Not sure if there is anyone else I can talk to about it.

for the interview I knew I had no skeletons in the closet. my two biggest concerns were 1 I could not get exact dates on a few employers and they were taken over at least twice. I made a.note to that on application
2. I knew I had 2 tickets about 5 years ago and DMV could not give me copy of record before I left. since I did not know what they were or exact dates I put exactly that on the application
lady doing interview thanked me.for.the honesty said it wasn't an issue as they we just at the 5 year mark said one was seatbelt and the other was failure to obey sign with no points. she mentioned if I had left it blank it could.have been an issue but since I was honest as I could be she made the correction
I would stay there it is paid for. food is paid for. and like others said why risk being late.
when people say it is like a long interview realize that carries.over to the instruction phase as well.Sevendogs Thanks this. -
The day starts at 0700, and depending on what goes on may run as late as 1800. If you are late, you are gone. This is trucking... all we have to sell is our service, and on-time delivery is what gets a lot of our business. If you show up late to anything, they start taking that as an indication of what kind of driver you'll be.Sevendogs Thanks this.
