Hello all - I will be starting the Swift Driving Academy down in Millington on May 23rd. Pretty excited, anxious, & nervous all rolled into one. Will be a major career change for me. I was wondering about the benefits at Swift. How is their medical plan? What's the cost for myself and one child? Do they have a 401k or something? Also, between now and when I leave, should I do or be doing something in advance? Any advice or thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Grabbing a CDL study guide from your local DPS/MVA would get you a jump start on the written parts of the CDL training for sure.

    Go luck and be safe

Wouldn't it had been better if you asked about Swift benefits before you committed to them?:biggrin_25521:

No place to go to school closer to home? I got my schooling from TN Tech, WIA funding paid for it all. (no debt!)

Swift has a 401K 6 months before you can start paying in. Call the recruiter about health. Mine is $24 a week for the better plan as a single non smoker.

I checked some local schools and did qualify for a workforce grant but they are out of funding right now. So I decided to go the Swift route. I want to get a year otr experience anyways.

Grant money is renewed every July 1st when the fiscal year starts. As for what you should be doing. Get a physical and if you are on any meds have your doctor give you paperwork that you can drive a CMV. (See King Hunter's posts). Get your CDL permit. The paperwork I have from my recruiter(and from the catalog from Millington) states it is required. Complete the pre course before you get your permit. It will help and many of the questions were on my written. Finally make sure you study the manual as there are a lot of questions on the test that aren't covered in the pre-course. If you do both you will do just fine. Good Luck!

Make sure you understand their medical plan.

And perhaps do a little research on 401K plans.

    Enjoy.......

KH no I just have the one. My advise if you want one is just to go up to any window that doesn't have anyone at it yet at the DMV and ask for one. They will give you one but don't grab a number you will wait a long time.
