I have a 2014 t 680 and there are two small marker lights in the headlight assembly one in each assembly.
They are between low beem and high beem.
Our mechanic told the office they are only there for looks and they don't need to work.
I told them that if it's there dot will write me up if they are not working.
Any feedback would be helpful.

They are not required by DOT. Only required lighting is required to be operational.

Ok thanks
-
Those bulbs cost 0.25 each and take two minutes to replace.
-
I know that I did replace them. Still not working the mechanic looked said it can't be fixed. So he took out the bulb on the good side.
-
Sounds like a wiring harness issue.
-
And to specify, so it's not just truck stop rumor....

They may not be able to cite you, however it doesnt stop them from pulling you over or behind scales because its inop. I run legal required lights only, and make sure they work. Them extra chicken lights look nice. But not on my truck amd trailers.

There's are not chicken lights.
They are a small marker light inside the headlight assembly. Mechanic said he couldn't fix the one after replacing the bulb.
So he left it out and then took out the working marker light out of the good headlight assembly.
I agree I always try to keep all lights working.
That's why I posted the question he's told the office they were there just for looks. I called bs on that
