I just bought a 2001 Freightliner Classic X L One Of the problems i have is the headlights come on as soon as you start it. They don't go offi have asked several people about this and know one seems to know why. Some say daylight driving lights, that would be fine but you really don't want the lights on all night at a truck stop. One more ? this truck has a small computer screen on the dash tells how many miles per gal and stuff like that. problem is i don't know how to work the screen and when you idle the truck for a while the screen will say excessive idling nobody knows why. Freightliner has been no help. Hope someone out here can help., Thanks Mike

the daytime runing lights should come on when you realse the breaks and go off when you set the brakes. Sounds liek someone hotwired the circuit. Don't park in front of me at the truckstop

You can push all the buttons you want on the computer screen, it wont change how the truck runs. I had the same thing in my FLD and after a few minutes of pushing buttons i finally figured out how to rest it. The excessive idle is just because it has a low idle time set into it but it wont shut the truck off, thats controlled by the setting in the ECM.
Mike101 Thanks this. -
An '01 Frt Classic xl does not have daytime running lights. Someone has hotwired those rascals to go on when the engine is started. Start tracing some wires and see what you can find.
Mike101 Thanks this. -
sounds like a canadian truck
