Yessir, rerun caught the OP in a conflict of statement...
Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
The problem is two fold. On the paperwork you want to answers all the questions truthfully and don't ever lie. The outcome would be the same but lying on a job application is much worse than lying on say a log book. Read the questions very carefully and do not give more than is needed. If the question asks have you ever smoked pot then you answer it. Just know that it's much worse to lie than to tell the truth.
The second part is if they do not take you because of what you answered then most will ruin your career by telling every reporting company what you've done. I'd like to see them take all the great drivers and shoot them with truth medicine and sit back and watch how that would come out. Nobody's 100% clean it's just a matter of how you answer the questions. -
I see you have no ability to understand where I'm coming from so I appreciate you leaving this thread.
Just cause someone has depression does not mean they are 'crazy'. Hell, almost every human being suffers from a form of depression at one point or another. Some just need medicine and outside help to get through it while others find other ways.
I guarantee that everyone who has posted in this thread has a connection to a person with a mental health issue. Maybe even closer then they even know. We're people too, just trying to make our living. And I, for my living, want to drive a big ol' truck.

i am so sad, i will lose sleep over you being appreciative of me leaving this thread.
YOU STATED, MENTAL ISSUES, not i, nor anyone else...all this will be on file, some where, some place.....
you MUST answer ALL questions truthfully on the DOT long form...some trucking companies may have THEIR OWN questionnaire as well...
i do not see you as a driver, having been a "former mental patient" as you claim you were...sooner or later, what ever caused you "mental issues", will crop up again....... -
Seebs, you can go to a DOT qualified walkin clinic and get a DOT physical for $40. You have to shop around as the price varies. You can do this even before you start the schooling process. Once you have that medical card, you would most likely be able to get a driving job. So that would be your cheapest route to feel the process out.
About the pot thing, be honest, but don't tell more than you have too. TMI!
They ask if you ever tested positive at a job and fired. If you haven't, then they don't need to know about any rehabilitation. If you have, your chances are slim of getting hired.
Rerun is right, if you ever have a serious accident, lawyers will dig up all your skeletons and use it in court. So it's best to be honest.
The DOT medical review board frowns on any psycological drugs and any narcotics, but waivers are handed out everyday for disorders. The human brain takes about 26 years to fully develop. So it is possible to grow out of a disorder. That's probably why you are showing improvement.
There is no room for drug use like pot and truck driving. So if it ain't in the past, I wouldn't even try. You'd be surprised how many fail their intitial drug test and get sent home.
You are young and not fully matured yet. I wouldn't let your past haunt you. Just leave it behind you. You have to be real serious about your decision to go forward with truck driving. Your mental patience gets tested everyday on the road with crazy drivers. You have to maintain a calm demeanor or you'll find yourself in a road rage incident. Shippers and receivers will piss you off at times. Same thing, you have to suck it up. The same goes with your company. It other words, it's a high stress job and a hot temper won't mix good with it. Good luck!Rerun8963 Thanks this. -

No one here can say whether your past issues make you inherently unable to drive a truck. But, it may help if you put yourself in the employer's shoes. If you're honest about your history, why would they take the obvious risk of putting a person with prior clinical mental health issues in a truck, when there are so many candidates out there with a clean slate?
