Health Insurance or Not?

In my case, though, my plan would only come in handy if my medical costs go over 15k. My deductible is a little under 10k. Then again, “insurance” is just in case something happens, and there is no guarantee you will come out ahead, and in most cases, people won’t. It’s just a good system to have to keep the masses away from huge medical costs where you end up selling your home or whatnot.

Well, Whats more important to you? A Good Savings account/IRA or a $900 a month Good insurance Plan?

Do you want Money? Or Semi Guaranteed health ?

Many Wing it through Life to have a savings and try to stay healthy until Medicare kicks in.

Tough Decision....Thats Why I ALWAYS tell the young kids starting out in life to Seek A Good Job with Free Health Insurance- Driving or Not.

Why the US hasn't adopted a Reasonable Health System Like Canada or the Netherlands is beyond me. Too Much Greed here.

My plans the same. You have to look at Total out of pocket expenses. After deductible, you still have co- insurance ( gotta love that term) usually 20-30% of costs, up to the Total. I understand, completely, I’ve had family plans as high as $975 per mo.Deductibles keep rising. To qualify on Healthcare. Gov, it must be a silver plan. Higher deductibles. That’s ok because even most employers, plans are about the same these days. My friend who works for GM, has the same problems I do with coverages.

This whole topic stirs my ulcers up. And I can’t afford that!!! All these years, I never used it, myself, until this year. At least I had it. As far as other costs, We usually meet the max out of pocket, every year. Actual cost is well over $1200 a mo.

    I could be wrong.

But HSA is for deductible. Correct? Not to cover the entire bill.

It's to offset the cost of what insurance won't pay.

The older a person gets, the higher the risk being uninsured is. I went a few years without insurance a couple times, but when you get older you really need it.

My Grandfather came to this country in 1953 to Detroit- Just to Feel things out- Broght my Grandmother and Father here a year later....Moved to Chicago in 1955,

My Grandfather and Grandmother NEVER had health insurance- Nor were going to pay for it- They Both made it to 62 (Back when you were able to get ss/medicare) at that age.......

Its a Risk- Hate seeiong people paying $1000 a month for insurance and never needing it- Lets say you pay for health insurance 35 years of your life- Thats over $ 300,000 of Money you worked hard for.

Either get it for free/Reduced cost- Or Wing It is my theory.........Have Children?? Then get a good job that covers 80-100% of coverage,

I did it for 18 years.....And We made the best of it,

I managed ok, but when the doctors first looked me over after 9-11 and told me pretty much as a team of 20 plus across 5 different specialties that I was quite sick. Then they asked if I had insurance? I told them that was pending once the disability based on spine and other problems went through. (Medical retirement)

That was a tough time. Some of our medicines were running 500.00 a month retail. Enough to upset the spouse. So I learned to do without.

I hate to say this, I'll die a thousand deaths before I admit to this one little birdie. That one ACA 2008 vote in congress mandating that insurance covers preexisting did it. Otherwise it was too expensive. But like I said, I'll die a thousand deaths and have a million fleas in the hair first before I admit to that little benefit. A tiny one.

For a while spouse provided employer insurance through the state making us dual insured.

I tell you this... we had to WATCH the billing people VERY carefully like a EAGLE. no.. more than a Eagle.. A hoot owl.

Why? They constantly billed medicare first then left overs to private. That is actually a felony. Medicare is always secondary by statuary law.

No, HSA is for any and all plan-defined medical costs. Any money you put into the HSA and don't spend just grow tax-free until you spend it, or forever. If what you spedn your HSA funds on is an approved medical cost (not buying an emotional support bass boat) you never pay taxes on the money. It goes into your HSA before taxes, it grows tax-free, and can be spend tax-free.

If you drop it and something major happens guess who ends up paying the bill?
That's right. The rest of us that have continued to pay for having it.
