Yes, but i can see you are a teamster. Nothing against the teamsters, i have family in the union (plumbers, electricians) But i think his question is regarding non-union truckers, right?

I've worked for a few places (non-union) that cover 100% of the employee's health insurance. The last company I was at before buying my truck would cover the employee 100% or pay the employee $35/week to NOT take the insurance.

When I started shopping around for my own policy, I found I could have bought an identical policy on my own....same insurance company, same coverages, same limits, same deductibles, same EVERYTHING....for $20/month less than they would have been paying me to not be on the carrier's plan.

I also found one I liked better for 1/2 that cost...so that's the one I bought for myself.

After having my own policy, I don't think I could EVER go back to relying upon my employer to decide what coverages and limitations I should have.

Where did u shop for your insurance@? My companies family plan is about $135 a week, I feel confident I should be able to find a plan on my own for less. Thanks

I'm an NRA member, and they have their endorsed insurance programs....found it through them. Also looked at the OOIDA's options, but wasn't as impressed.

I just used an independent insurance agent. Since I am on my own for insurance anyway as an O/O. Got a BC/BS health plan with a $5 million lifetime pay out for me and the wife, I smoke, she has preexisting condition she takes meds for, and we are both in our 50's. Premium in $391.40 a month. I have it tied to a Health Savings Account. Both the premium and HSA are tax deductible. And when I pay with the HSA, I get 30% knocked off the bill from the doctor. I will never spend more than $5000 in any year regardless of the medical problem. And that is no problem since I have more than that in the health savings account that grows with interest and rolls over every year with no loss. And I don't have to play the "can only deduct expenses over 7.5% of adjusted gross income" game. I get to deduct every penny, no matter my income. And the added bonus, it is not tied to any employer or carrier. No matter where I go, I am covered. That is, until Obamacare screws this up.
