Frieght is generally slow this time of year....
I know Chrysler is working 7 days a week and strong in fact the other two GM and Ford factories are still puffing smoke stacks here in Detroit

Funny. One of their drivers tried to recruit me in Denver when I was running with Stevens Transport.

we get 500 bucks if we recruit a driver and they run 2,000 miles and an extra 300 bucks if they run 20,000 miles

I could not agree more there and in some places it has been happening. I am going back to team dedicated....that is where the real money is...as long as one stays away from the megas with their crap team runs.

There is always going to be long haul freight. If you like long haul then drive a Reefer.

Some corrections: First off, Gordon is not in the process of buying Heartland, HL bought GTI more than two years ago, but they still operate independent of each other when it comes to dispatch. You will see GTI hauling HL trailers and vice-versa. There are times where I never pull a GTI trailer for weeks, but they're about 50/50 on the loads. Second, GTI uses Qualcomm, HL uses PeopleNet. GTI has four different driving positions, I am very happy in OTR, HL is all regional and I never heard anyone saying good things at the terminals except the guys and gals making salary. There are a LOT of long term drivers at GTI that are very happy and treated very well.

Working OTR, I can run as hard as I want to in a 64 mph truck. Almost all weeks are 3500-4000 miles IF you know how to work the company and the business. There are more than 27 drop yards around the country and the company gives you plenty of time to run a load. Problem with most drivers is they don't use their head. If you get a 1,000 mile load, they'll give you three days to run it. What I do is, I plan a two day trip and on my ETA/PTA, I write in, ETA TO DROP YARD. I'll confirm it on my AM call and they'll have me pre-planned by noon on the second day from the drop yard. I'm not sure if HL will let you do this or not...

The only way to be happy out here is to make it your own business. You have to use your head! Do you want to live unload that three day, 1,000 mile trip, or would you rather D&H and be on your way? Once the planners learn how you work, they work with you and you both win. The better you make them look, the better they treat you! I have worked for five companies in the last 39 years, two of them megas, and I have to say, nothing bad to say about any of them. When you take care of them, they take care of you...

I've been driving a truck for 20 year's. I drove for Heartland for 2 years. I quit right around the time they bought out Gordon. I'm very familiar with the Trucking business. No way your going to make 3000-4000 miles a week driving for Heartland.

I said I work for GTI Air Breeze, not Heartland. Heartland is all regional, I work OTR. I thought I made that pretty clear...

Heartland owns GTI doesn't it? I've seen Gordon Tractors hauling Heartland Trailers and vice versa. I have seen Tractors with a Gordon paint scheme with a Heartland Logo sticker on the door. So what's the difference? Heartland owns GTI now, it's not a separate company running under it's own authority anymore. It's like the difference between Crete and Shaffer. I'm glad your doing so well at GTI. I'm familiar with a few former GTI drivers and they say GTI isn't the same company anymore, and after my experience with Heartland i'm inclined to believe what they say about GTI.
