Been awhile since I posted to a forum. I have been a member here for awhile and have read a lot of posts and anytime someone talks good about who they drive for everyone jumps on them and calls them a recruiter. I actually believe this guy made those miles and that money. I wonder when I drove for TransAm and made great money and miles with them that people thought I was a recruiter. LOL
Heartland Express is doing good

I applied and am waiting for approval. But reading here tells me one thing for sure. Some drivers didn't get treated perfect, so they claim HL is a crap company. But, that's to be expected with any company. You will always have those that do nothing but complain and you hear from more of them because they have nothing else to do. While at the same time, the more that are satisfied are too busy working to come here.
Anyway, at my last company, because I was a satisfied driver, I was also called a "recruiter". I've noticed on most trucking sites that the word "recruiter" is used more as a slang than a job description. Again, people upset because they aren't doing as good as others.
And on that note, I've noticed during my time with my last company that the complainers were the ones that made no effort. Rather than trying to put a load in a yard or delivering early, they would sit on it and complain because they aren't getting the miles. They are the ones that have to stop every 100 miles for whatever and take 30 minutes to do it. They are the ones that will complain when something isn't right to everyone except the people that can help them. They are the ones that work 7-9 hours a day.
Do I expect HL to be a perfect fit for me? Heck no. No company will be. But I will do what I need to do in order to make them fit good. I will take the time to learn the ins and outs to make HL work for me.
As far as the home time, that's why I'm choosing HL. I would rather have a 34 hour reset at home once a week than 3 days once a month. If I need more time, I'll plan it. I'll stay out an extra week so that I can get the extra time. Or, I'll just ask for it and then expect to return the favor.
I'm also going in knowing that I won't make the same money as OTR while running regional. Unlike some that expect to stay within a day of home and be paid like they are running coast to coast.
Anyway, thanks to those that show it's possible to make a decent living at HL and to those that are honest about their experiences with them. I've always been one to not listen to a short time employee because short timers are the ones that won't give a company a chance and who wants advice from someone like that.kaptsbaby and Jack&Jill Logistics Thank this. -
Very smart Chip. You should do pretty well at most places you go. I have had a couple of short term employments, but that was because I seen the writing on the wall that there was no way to make money at the company. You live You learn you do better. God bless bro and hope it works out for you.

Heartland seems like a decent company to me.
I was listening Kevin Rutherford on Sirius last week. He was comparing Heartland to Swift. He said Heartland was actually producing more net profit despite being a fraction of the size. That's a pretty good recommendation in my book.
Seems the main detractor in this thread is a driver who spent 4 months with the company right when the worst depression since the 1930's was catching everyone by surprise.
Any company that pays a higher rate is better in my book. It's not just about miles folks.
I am sitting in a company paid hotel right now waiting for a spotted trailer to get loaded that has a delivery date of April 2, 1700 miles away. Its scheduled to be ready 4/28.
I would be pissed if I wasn't getting paid 24 hours in layover while I wait for it and more on the delivery end if they won't take it early. I make more money if they do and have another load ready but my income is protected either way.kaptsbaby and Jack&Jill Logistics Thank this. -

Does anyone care about these posts, anyone want me to continue?tna, 123456, Roadwarriorking and 2 others Thank this. -
Yes please do. I enjoy seeing what others are earning and what kind of miles they are getting.
Please keep it up.tna and Jack&Jill Logistics Thank this. -
If I was here to recruit people I would be messaging people, trying to get them to put me down as for a referral etc.
Since if I got someone on I would get a pretty good bonus for getting them to orientation. And if they stayed a few months get a really good bonus.
I do not do that. I do not ask for that. And it is not my reason for being here. I answer questions as honestly as I can. And give honest information to help drivers with their decisions. That is it. I do this and most others on this site do this, as a favor to other drivers.
We do not stick together on the road like we use to. But we do stick together here. We share information and ideas.Jack&Jill Logistics, tna and mgt1085 Thank this. -
How was your time with transam. I am a newbee and looking at them. No forced team stuff like most everyone else. Thanks
-
Well I was thinking about Hearland from what I have read here....yeah the normal 10% complain so that looked good. I am a newbee at this. They will not hire me with no 18 wheeler experience. I have averaged over 70k miles a year in a 4 wheeler besides doing a 8 to 10 hr workday out side of the car.....Have riden motorcycles for over 35 years (regularly) and only accident there was a drunk hit me head on. 2 jobs in last 25+ years. No DUI's. No drug crap. No accidents in over 25 years (can't remember last one) No traffic citations since 1998....see the miles I drive and see how many 4 wheelers can claim that. Tell Heartland they need to look outside the box once in awhile. They looked like a very good company to work for. Maybe one day but I am not the type that after one year I will jump ship to see which is what they want
