I'm actually checking Heartland out. I came off the road last year into the office and have been offered a job with them. Been reading the threads to get a feel for the company. Nice to read some good posts for once.

Jaebro still the only thing you can try to cut on is driving at night. Oh just a hint lol was out like 10 years ago. Any way the point I was making was if Heartland would keep you running after your break and not sit you an additional up to 15 hrs you could get more miles and be safe driving those miles day or night. I'm out here away from my family and if I have hrs to run I like to be running and not sitting. Here is another example I'm delivering at 7 am....pre plan picking up at 1700 going a whopping 250 mile and delivers the next night at 2230. As a driver that is a lot of sitting for 250 miles. Like the saying goes (if the wheels aren't turning your not earning).

.48 cents permile is a great rate. is that the short mileage rate? if so it seems very worth it

No .48 cents is not short mileage rate that rate is if you have been with Heartland for a while. My mileage rate is .425 cents per mile as a newbie with Heartland.

I think experienced drivers with 6 or 7 years under their belt start out on their first day at Heartland at 48 cents, or 52 cents anytime they would drive in what they call the green zone - east of PA.

    Cap is at 8 years.
System Cap is .48 cpm plus 1 cent for hazmat and 1 cent for safety bonus (paid once per year)
If running in green zone which is northeast East of I-81 and North of VA. You get another 4 cents per mile. So with everything an experienced company driver, running system, with hazmat and running in green zone, can make up to 53 cents per mile while in that zone.

The problem with running in the green zone is that almost ALL of the freight in that area is short mileage, running at night, and too much time to deliver. So you earn that 4 cents.
I would much rather not go there, and not get that 4 cents.

    Cyanide and Dinomite Thank this.

Whatever Sniper, you said it in your thread "driving at night was unsafe"....?
It jumped out at me for which I've responded.
Not here to argue, but your facts hold no merit for which the bottom line is revenue.
If your going to make revenue then you got to be ready when the freight is.
Otherwise we've all read your struggles to make some.
If Heartland doesn't get it done for you then you really need to find something else.
Life is too short to be unhappy..!

Truthin and chromedome are recruiters. Heartland pay high cause that's the only way to get people in to replace the 120% drivers overturn heartless express has. The never pay for all your scale tickets. They run you to north east you deliver and you just sit and sit. Every time you go to terminal you wait in inspection lane for hours and their goes your whole day. Liers cheaters and thieves Stearns away from heartless.
