Fueling. None of us get paid for fueling. You drive nose into the fuel island, stick your cards into the reader. It malfunctions and you walk all the way to the fuel desk, stand in line behind one of those lonely drivers who's captivated by the woman (doesnt matter if she's hard on the eyes) behind the fuel desk. Finally, LonelyMan steps aside and you hand her your cards and tell her what pump you are on. Walk back out, fuel up, walk all the way back in, stand behind Stinky...you know that guy that got off the can without using the paper... while he flirts with that cashier. Finally, youre done and ready for the road. Walk around the trailer, strumming all your securement, making sure they sing, and you're off...45 minutes to an hour later after you pulled in.
If you have a big load, you do all of the above...and you have to travel back and forth to your trailer, and a drop and hook. But its part of the job.
Heavy equitpment or machinery only ??

Settle down Mr. Flip Flops.
You asked and people gave their opinions, kind of what happens on these boards........... -
Missed post #31a. Did we forget to sugarcoat our replys and offend Flip Flop? No "large" carrier that i know of will give anyone a free pass doing this kind of work if they have no experience? If a guy is to lazy to tarp a load, this may not be a good line of work for him? This kind of work can be alot of work and requires patience. Speaking for myself, things go alot better if im not hurried. Hurrying is how things get missed or forgotten.Last edited: Nov 30, 2012

Hey Triple 6, I gues you did'nt get the memo in May.
I'm no longer with ATS..
But anyhow, Yes doing h.h. work is a whole different game.
Flip flops says he has a bad hip I believe. Well how is he going to crawl up on a machine and chain it down?
Also hang that shackle up on the machine and then balance with one foot trying to thread the chain through said shackle?
What about climbing up on the machine to ld. or unld it, being up on a trailer.
When I do tarp, I get a seperate rate for that as a o/o.
Even when I drove company trucks years ago I was lucky and got good pay for tarping and untarping. Per tarp not per ld.
Had one load took 12 20/24' tarps to cover that load. All day, with helpers.
Each type of driving has it's pros and cons.. The choice is up to you.. -
I know. Didn't need the memo. Makes no difference as long as you aren't one of those guys that went back to door slamming. I'm not one of those ATS worshipers. It's just a stepping stone for me to get back where I was.

Speaking of Grade 10 (100) chain, some chain supplier sent a sample to one of our safety men. The links were about the size of 3/8, it weighed the same as 5/16 dog chain, but had the WLL of 1/2!!!!!
I could drop all that 3/8 and 1/2, run one set of chain, make some short cheaters with 1/2 inch slip hooks, and have what I need to do anything, and lose 1500 lbs!
Then I saw the pricing. That stuff was over $10 a foot!
i will buy a barrel eventually.
...eventually.... -
This is first i found with quick search on Ebay. It is USA chain. Im sure with more time searching you will find better prices on chain/shipping. I may get in trouble posting link, but meant as information, not sales...

Was it Fred who got the test samples for the chains??
Remember slip hooks are banned there.. HaHa. outa sight outta mind. -
