People like that are the reason there is no money in local moves. I’m glad you think highly of him.

FoolsErrand, your bosses' operation sounds fantastic! I do things somewhat differently, however I can also recognize the similarities as well. My two trucks are busy and almost any day, one is on the road, and on most days, both trucks make at least some trips. Most trips are about moving my own equipment to job sites, or my auction purchases or some such. Not a lot of miles, but comparatively a fair amount of activity.

OK, just to ask for some examples. What would be a charge to pick up and deliver a tracked piece of equipment, say a one day trip, like 200 miles away and a return trip empty? Overweight load, gross weight 110,000, width 10'? This would be for a fully insured carrier, of course, not some underground economy actor.

What is illegal about it? He has DOT numbers and operates in state only. I thought MC was for interstate.

Not only not having authority to be a for hire carrier he won’t have insurance to cover the cargo.

I have faxed the insurance policy myself on a haul for a sale. 1 mil liability and like 300k cargo iirc, he moves a pretty expensive sennebogen of his own.
So i guess hes cutting your throats by saving $300 on a MC number. But youre right, he's an evil cheat who ought to be shot.
