I just checked the cost of a permit today, $3,900 to haul a load 1/2 mile. Only 12' wide but weighs 265,000 lb and there is a bridge inspection involved. I actually think most of the cost is due to the bridge inspection. The kicker is, I have to pay for the permit and they still can deny it and there is no refund. I told my customer this and he has agreed to pay the permit cost up front.

Deal with the scooter cops around Houston all the time. Definitely easy to deal with & as long as you let them know what you need they will make it happen.

So... Over size/Over weight permits from the state are good for State and Interstate roads, but are not valid on county roads. If I'm moving a load on county/township/city roads, with the applicable county/township/city permits, and I cross a state highway, do I need a permit from the state? I'm not talking about driving down a lane of the state highway, I'm talking about just crossing it. Where do they draw the line? Entering the right-of-way?

Yea my clutch foot likes not stopping at any lights and always getting the right of way at on / off ramps. Plus it kind of makes me feel like I'm the President getting escorted.

I'll help them block a set of lanes when we are merging.

If you are not traveling on any state roads, only crossing them, then you should be ok...but I'd verify that with the state. The opposite holds true, if you are on state highways and only cross over county/city roads you don't require county/city permits...except in certain jurisdictions where they have passed local laws saying you do...
    Ain't OS/OW fun!

I wanted to buy his bike several years back when he was thinking about getting a new one. But he wouldn't leave it programmed with the current specs said it had to be de programed

His Harley cruiser? Wow...that would be a nice bike. Hmmm, I need to ask Sarge if he's going to be part of the police escort for Chopper Dave's Charity Ride n November.
It always amazes me how clear they were on the radio with those open face helmets.

BTW, what engine do you have on your bike? And are you looking for more GO?
