I know that an escort is required for over width of 10' and height of 15' but how critical/fines occur if you are 2-4 inches over?

No they arent. It depends on the state. I run quite a few 12' wide loads they dont require an escort.

Well, is it worth being PARKED and then having to hire escorts to do it + the fines? What happens if you're in an accident, and someone measures and finds you without escorts?

I think I'd hre them and be legal then to get caught.

Please read your permits. Like Jumbo stated, each state is different.
Don't get caught or in an accident. Even if you are not at fault the lawyers will eat you for breakfast

The fines for what? Not having an escort? If your permit requires an escort, and you do not have an escort, your OSOW permit is void. Your load is illegal. If you break any of the provisions of an OSOW (oversized or overweight) it automatically voids the permit.

How critical are the fines? Depends on the load and the state that you are in. When your permit is voided, they go back to the legal specs, for the most part, thats 13'6 tall, 80000gvw, 8'6 wide and 75 ft long. If you were in Pennsylvania, running an OSOW on Sunday at 2pm, and you were stopped by a LEO, with a 13'10 tall, 11'wide, 83 ft long, 120000lb load AND you had a drunk driver hit you, it wouldnt be 1 fine you'd have to worry about. Its a fine for overwidth, another fine for the weight, another fine for the height, another fine for the length, PLUS anything else they can throw at you.

Like they said Read your Permits Most States you don't need and escort unless if your 12' or wider<every state is different> ....but your measurements need to be dead on accurate if your 12'1" and your permit said 12' your in major violation and could be fined shut down and put out of service for 24hrs not to mention if your in an accident you and be hung out to dry by lawyers and d.o.t. and u must fallow the route on your permit if u just go whatever way you want and are on a hwy that you shouldn't be on that can be another costly fine also most major cities have cerfews to follow as well a lot of them you cant be on the hwy during peak morning and evening rush hours Read your permits till you everything just remember every state is diffrent
