Hi everyone. I've been lurking on Truckers Report for about a year and really enjoy and appreciate everyone's helpful advice. I read threads for hours almost every night. Thank you to all who make this such a great site. This is my first post and am in need of some advice myself. So here's the situation, I am building a new house in rural Oregon and got snowed out for the winter so i went to cdl school and earned a class-a with all my endorsements. I need to be back up on the mountain in May to finish the house. I thought i could get a cdl and go trucking for 4 months, finish my house and then get back to trucking. The question is should i be upfront with employers about leaving in 4 months? Also will they charge me for "training" if i don't stay 6 months or more? Sorry ask this in the introductions and thanks to all who can offer advice.
Hello Everyone... I just got my cdl. What the heck do i do now?

Do you plan to return to trucking after completion of your house? If so, be up front and tell the company your plan. Most companies will be ok with that as long as there are no surprises.
What is the nearest city/town to where your house is? -
Hello Chinatown. I think i should be upfront also. I was an employer for the last 20yrs and don't think i could sleep well if i wasn't honest with them. I currently live on the central Oregon coast with the nearest city being Eugene which is about 1-1/2 hrs away. I'll be moving to (nearest town) Crescent, Or. with the nearest city's being Bend which is about 1-1/2 hrs north or Klamath Falls which is 2hrs south. Yep its out there. Yes I plan on trucking after the house is built as there are really no other jobs up there. MY girlfriend of 15yrs also has her class-a and we want to team drive. Neither of us have any experience. We have a dog that must go with us. I am financially secure and want to get into my own truck in short order.

Chat with A&M Transport in Glendale. Maybe, they'll work with you. They hire new cdl grads and have a good reputation with their drivers.

Thanks Chinatown, I don't think A&M does teams but I'll call them in the morning. We've been thinking Jim Palmer, May, Melton, Roehl, Freymiller? I just don't want to work for 4 months and be handed a bill. I think I might have put the cart in front of the horse but as any newbie, I'm anxious to get started. Thanks for the help.

You wanting teams?

Yes, sorry i added that after i posted. She wants to drive to.. Also I would company drive for at least a year after the house is done and before i bought a truck.

TWT Refrigerated Service - new grads teams pay 60 cpm split.
Lynden Transport runs teams and hires new cdl grads.
Quest Global runs teams and pays each driver a minimum of $1200.00 weekly. Need 3 mos. experience, but they make exceptions for husband wife teams and will waive the 3 mos. experience for the wife if the husband has 3 mos. driving experience. Same if wife has experience and husband doesn't.
