New old trucker here, got my class A in 1977 at 20 years drove for four years Andrews&pierce out of Abington Mass and was with local 59 teamsters. I was younger and fired up.
Went in the service 1981 when I got out the trucking company was belly up so I went into the family construction business for a paycheck and kept my license in case of the opportunity to get back in a truck but I liked banging nails and being home everyday. One day I went in to renew my license and the counter monkey says "you ainst drivin a trucks sose you cantst has a truck license, you gots to gets a regular ones" (virginia)
(CDL was implemented by the fed gov) Well I got screwed by that twit because being away from the industry, I was not aware of the change requirements and believe I probably just needed to take a written test (if that was the case she never fessed and it cost me a means to make a living and I was not about to go to school (pride) I already was an accomplished driver. Any way long story
short. I am determined to get back in a truck and will eat crow if I have to
do it! Anyways thats my story and I hope to learn alot in here real fast so I dont make any mistakes fast tracking because at 53 now I am NOT doing construction the rest of my days no matter what the economy does.
Thanks for letting me vent, I look forward to talking to everyone in here.
One closing comment. We had some really cool trucks back then and the muscle cars! better days for sure. Oh the music was awesome as well. Be safe all!
Frank

Welcome to the forum Old*School! My last real gig before I looked into driving was in construction. I was kinda of a flunky for all the subs, suppliers, well, to tell the truth, I was pretty much a flunky for anyone in the company that needed a flunky. It's the only job that I would go back to if I found I couldn't cut it as a driver. There's just something about the process of finding a family a lot to build on, then being involved in the process until you can say, "Here's your key". I'm 56 and you'll find a lot of 50+ wannabes and new drivers here. I think we, the older guys, don't get as frustrated or turned off by some of the posts we read because we've experienced some real life, suckass situations in other fields. You'll do fine, even if you do have to eat a little crow. I've found that crow is not bad if you warm it up and add salt. Good luck, Old*School and thanks for joining in with us!
