I thought I would join this forum, as I've seen lots of helpful discussions and answers here about the trucking industry. I am currently a high school student looking into a future career in trucking, so if you want to tag on any advice I'm all ears!

Good career and cheap to get started in. A four week cdl school and you can earn more than most college/university graduates.
Get the CDL at 18 yrs. old and you can drive within the borders of your state. Many 18 yr. old drivers do that.
Household goods movers sometimes hire 18 yr. old cdl drivers as driver helpers.
Courier companies sometimes hire 18 yr. old drivers. Having a CDL is a plus, even if the job doesn't require Class-A CDL because it shows motivation on your part.

    Welcome!
I would advise going through this forum, and looking for interesting topics and questions. There is a wealth of information here, but it can sometimes take a bit of searching to find it.

I would suggest you to get RN or LVN degree. good money , always with family and friends, .... . only good things. if I would have a chance and I would be young I would take that path for sure.

Yeah I think getting the CDL early would be a plus, thanks for the advice! Also I didn't know you could only do intrastate until you are 21, but perhaps it is for the best I'm not going cross-country right off the bat.
Thanks for the advice, but I don't think a healthcare career would be for me. My sister is a nurse though, and she enjoys it :D

You can travel with a driver, but only drive within your state. Once the truck crosses the state line, you move to the passenger seat. It's still a good deal because you're showing time on your cdl; when you're 21, you can show 3 yrs. experience, even though the driving is within your state.

One possible avenue would be to join the military and sign up for training in which you would learn to drive trucks and operate heavy equipment, after you graduate from high school.

Years ago I was in the U.S. Navy. I came across Seabees who were experts in the use and repair of construction equipment.

You may like being in the military and make it a career, retiring after 20 years with a retirement check for the rest of your life.

This would be your decision, however, it is worth looking into.

Good luck to you! God bless you and your family!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Yeah my parents seem to think military would be a good route, for trucking or otherwise. I haven't really decided, but it definitely has its advantages
